Jesus Christ Never Existed

(Voting Period) Jesus Christ, contrary to popular public opinion, never existed.

First to define who Jesus Christ was according to the "Holy Bible": Jesus Christ is a central figure in Christianity who supposedly lived from around 4 B.C. to 30 A.D. He was a prophet of Judaism who many believed was the Messiah, the one who would deliver the Jews to salvation. He began a new religious movement, called his ministry, that was composed of 12 disciples and other followers. He was sentenced to death by the Jewish authorities of Judea and was crucified by the Roman authorities.

Now to define the term existence: The term existence means in simple Latin form to be.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Existence

Jesus Christ never existed because he never lived. All documents that are about his life were written many years after his death, with the first gospel being written in 70 AD, 30 years after Jesus' supposed death in 40 AD. H

Vortex is a waste of Tax Payers money

(Post Voting Period) I've read several things showing peoples distain for the Government paying for the Vortex Project. For those who dont know what it is, Vortex stands for "Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment" and what it is, is basicly a field projects study tornadoes. The Vortex 2 was originally slated for about $12 million. With the government supplements that came out last year, I'm not positive, but I think we're in the $14 million range, for the two year project. Some People say this is a waste of money. I say bull. If it is a waste, I'd love to hear how its a waste.

The instigator, affirmative or negative, ought to post an oppening argument in the first round

(Voting Period) I have taken quite a bit of heat about posting an opening argument. While I realize it is polite and better for the debate to post an opening argument, I feel that I have no obligation to do so. Therefore, in correspondence with my position, I will allow my opponent to open the debate. If you accept this debate, you agree to the following definitions:

Instigator-the person who starts a debate

Ought-used to express obligation or duty

Good luck to whoever accepts, and I look forward to an enjoyable debate.

Governments must consider the moral implications of their actions when formulating foreign policy

(Voting Period) First of all, I'd like to thank whoever it is that accepts this debate for their time and energy; I'm sure it'll be an interesting debate.

I Negate.

I contend that the greatest obligation of any government is to protect the national interest.
Governments are made for the sole purpose of providing protection and economic stability for their citizens. If they ignore this basic obligation than it ceases to be a just government. That concept is best described as the protection of national interest. Felix Oppenheim writes "Given that the national interest is the only standard practically available to statesmen, acting accordingly is to be characterized as rational. The concept of national interest refers to welfare goals of national governments on the international level, such as the preservation of political independence and territorial integrity. The formula of the national interest has become practically synonymous with the formula of national security. Fo

Waterboarding is a justified method of interrogation

(Voting Period) People tell me all the time that we cannot allow this "horrible atrocity" in America. I disagree strongly, and hope to sway a few opinions on this matter. So without further adu, the case for waterboarding.
Does waterboarding work? Without a doubt, yes. Abu Zubayda broke after 35 seconds of being waterboarded and, according to the man who did it, the information he gave let us stop "…a number of attacks, maybe dozens of attacks".

Torture is justified in saving lives-
It is justified to use water-boarding because it saves lives. Saving lives is the first obligation of the government; "to provide for the common defense." The idea of saving lives MUST be held above ethical principles. Scenario: It would be justified for a kid in school to attack another kid if he tried to stab a lower classmate. This scenario can be applied to the US and its government. Not only is the government justified in using water-boarding, it is an obligation too as well if there is

Late term abortion is morally correct in every situation

(Voting Period) I stand in firm negation of the resolution. As my opponent is affirmative, the burden of proof lies on him/her. I will allow my opponent to speak first. To clarify the debate I offer the following definitions:

Late term abortion-Also called voluntary abortion. the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy, done in the late stages of pregnancy.

Moral-of, pertaining to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong; ethical: moral attitudes.

If you accept this debate, you agree to use these definitions. Good luck to whoever accepts!

Scenario Debate

(Voting Period) In this debate there is no pro or con. Nor is there a right or wrong. Instead of voting for which side is better, vote for which person comes up with the best proposals.

Ex. Scenario: There is a ball hurdling towards your head.
PRO (Speaker 1): Duck. (support goes here)
CON (Speaker 2): Catch it then chase them down and peg em' (support)

WINNER: IS SPEAKER 1. (more logical and beneficial)

Soooo, lets give this a shot.

Scenario: China has 500 ballistic missles aimed at Taiwan Threatening to fire if they do not join china per the "One-China" Policy. Considering that the US is a major trading partner and ally with Taiwan, what should we do?

Your job as the Contender is to reply "I accept for round 1" then debate in round 2. In round 3 i will alter the scenario and we will debate in round 4. Just say "I accept in round 3"

The Christian God is Omniscient and Omnibenevolent

(Voting Period) Alright, I'll open this up to Pro to make the first argument. If you'd like me to argue first, just post in the comments, and I can put up my side. Please, let's not get semantical.

Definitions:
Omniscient (www.dictionary.com): having complete or unlimited knowledge, awareness, or understanding; perceiving all things.
Omnibenevolence (my own): always making the ethical, or morally correct, decision.

To clarify 'morally correct', a decision will be considered immoral if it causes harm.

If you have a better definition of omnibenevolence (I couldn't find it in a dictionary. It's also coming up on spellcheck), please post it.
