Rap Battle.

(Post Voting Period) Words and phrases I could choose, but I decided just to peruse:

I'm looking for a rap battle along those lines. The same rules generally apply, most importantly that meter should not be considered in the decision. Thanks to my opponent for accepting.

Singing Comptetition

(Post Voting Period) Ok well this will be a sing off. Basically, we record ourselves singing a song. The other person will pick what the opponent sings. For example. I want you to sing....

21 Guns by Green Day.

Now my opponent will pick a song for me. I may be horrible at it, but miracles can happen. I wish the BEST of luck to my opponent!

Metal takes more skill than Rap

(Voting Period) First all I would like to thank whoever accepts this debate.
I am here to argue that metal and all of it's sub-genres takes more skill than rap and all of it's sub-genres.
As a avid listener of all music and literally all music I feel I have a better opinion on this than others do.
I listen to all genres of metal, all genres of punk, all genres of rap, all genres of classic rock, and a little bit of country.
My opponent may choose to start debating now or wait for round 2.

Rap Battle.

(Post Voting Period) This here is a rap battle, kids.

The objective for each side is simply to make a rap, not too short but not too long, that attacks the other person. Because we're simply writing our raps, beats won't really be an issue, so the battle will essentially be more poetic than fully hip-hop like.

The criteria used for judging should simply be the quality of the wordplay, taking into account creativity of the rhymes, references to outside things, etc. Flow–meaning rhythm, and the syllabic structure of each line–should not be a criterion as we are not actually rapping these verses rather than typing and reading them.

My opponent should begin with a verse IN ROUND 1. If he or she fails to do so, he or she immediately forfeits the battle. The next rounds should then all contain verses. I am giving myself a disadvantage in that I am not able to write a verse in the first round–thus, I ask that my opponent refrain from writing a verse in the final round. However,

Muse: The Best Band Ever!

(Post Voting Period) About a year or two ago I was first introduced to Muse and I immediatley began to like them. It was like something that i had never heard before. I loved Muse so much that everytime I wanted to listen to something it just wasn't the same. Everytime I listened to something other than Muse it was uncomparable to Muse and I had to listen to Muse Right away. Muse is made up of Matthew Bellamy (guitarist/vocals), Dominic Howard (Drummer), and Chris Wolstenholme (Bassist/backup vocals).
First I want to start with Chris. Chris is one of the most amazing bassists i ever seen. There are many songs that are very bass oriented like "Hysteria", "Time is Running Out", and "Feeling Good". Without Chris most of Muse's songs would not be the same.
Second, there is Dominic. Also one of the best Drummers I have ever heard play. He can take just about any song and come up with the most complex beat that no one could ever figure out. He has great interdependence of each limb a

Kurt Cobain is overated as a musician because of his early death.

(Voting Period) Kurt Cobain's stature as a musical icon has been heightened by his early death. Many other bands drew the kind of attention and were as important as Nirvana. His skills as a guitarists were mediocre and he was arguably the second most talented member of his own band. Nirvana's following during the early nineties has been matched by many other bands and was surpassed by Pearl Jam who never got the kind of respect that Nirvana did because all of the members of the band are still living.

In short, Nirvana is judged based on what they would have done. Cobain has been glorified because he died for his craft. There are plenty of bands that accomplished what Nirvana did and more, however Cobain is a rock god because he died at the same age as the likes of Morrison, Hendrix, and Joplin.

Led Zeppelin.....The Greatest Band Ever

(Voting Period) Led Zeppelin is hands down the best band to ever grace us with their presence on this earth. Jimmy Page is arguably the best guitarist ever. The late Bonzo was and still is the greatest drummer of all time. Plant was the first true metal vocalist with his distictive high pitch. And last but not least, JPJ, the most underrated musician of the modern era; great composer and played many different instruments. But a band cannot have success with just very talented members, it needs chemistry, consistency, a vision of where they want to take music; and Zeppelin and just that.

(Post Voting Period) This is not really a debate. I would just like to show off my photography and look at someone's photography and we will critique each other.

Rules:
-Each round you will post a photo that you have taken.
-The photos can't be changed(such as removing a sign or pole)in post-photo programs.
-You can, however, conduct minor Photoshop changes, such as brightness and contrast, levels, and curves, etc. You can also crop.
-Each time you post a photo, you would critique the photo I previously posted and I the same.
-In the last round we will not post any photos, but talk about our photography skills in general.

Kesha has no true talent in terms of singing

(Post Voting Period) talent (n) a special natural ability or aptitude

If you've never seen Ke$ha sing live don't bother.

We have singing greats out there like Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, Prince, Kelly Clarkson, etc. and then we have the people that teenagers listen to and end up on the top 40 stations. Which category does Ke$ha fall under? The second one.

We have people with true talent in whatever they do like the contestants on SYTYCD and American Idol, albeit some of them weren't all that great. Then we have people with an image and a terrible singing voice. What category does Ke$ha fall under? The second one.

We, as Americans, allow these image-promoting people to be played on our radio waves while the people with these amazing voices and no real true image sit on the stations with music from our past. Why? Why do we allow this to happen? My theory is that the majority of people who listen to the "popular" stations are teenagers. The majority of tee

Writers debate

(Post Voting Period)
This is a writers debate! The point of this debate is to shed creativity of both writers. One person will write a passage, and the next person will add on to the story accordingly.

Whoever creates the most interesting continuation/orientation/conclusion of the story wins the vote for "most convincing arguments"

Points for spelling and grammar are awarded as per usual.

****RULES****

1. 72 hours for time to argue.

2. 3 days voting period.

3.
Writers debate

(Voting Period) This debate is for any of you book readers, or writers. I felt the need to open this debate in order to expose creativity and entertainment.
The point of this debate is for both debaters to write out a short story.
The first person will start out the story, with a certain set of characters and a select few settings.
In every round the Pro will present a problem in their story. The Con will then continue this same story with the same characters and settings (where rules apply), and fix the problem somewhere in the midst of the story.

RULES
-----------------
1. Each story must exceed over 4,000 characters long.
2. There will be two main characters (Dennis, and Victoria in this case).
Each writer is allowed to bring up to 2 extra characters in their story. They may not make any more than two. (crowds, and large groups of unknown people are the exception). Each writer may describe the character in whichever way they like, but there is no changing any cha

Voters should be required to post their reasoning behind each vote they make.

(Voting Period) I like debate. I like debate.org. I think it is a really cool idea. However I find myself often dissatisfied with the voters. In debates where I feel I have clearly won its not so bad because to some extent I can justify my loss in my head with the thought, "Wow... those people are idiots!"

Its when I'm debating someone of equal or similar skill level to myself that this annoys me the most. To lose a debate that I am unsure of how I did on and personally feel was close is o.k. in itself. But when I do not know why I have lost that debate I can't actually modify my strategy or improve my debating skills.

Therefor I advocate that each time someone votes they should be required to post a reason for why they have voted in such a way. While many comments will doubtlessly say something to the effect of, "~INSERT DEBATER~ IS STUPID!" or just a persons personal view on the issue I feel that some would actually post helpful criticism. (The voting comment section

Man is born pure and through society he becomes corrupt.

(Post Voting Period) Man is by nature good; society is the cause of corruption and vice. However, In society, natural self-love becomes corrupted into a venal pride, which seeks only the good opinion of others and, in so doing, causes the individual to lose touch with his or her true nature; the loss of one's true nature ends in a loss of freedom.
In the words of Rosseau, "Man is by nature good. Men are depraved and perverted by society."

When out into perspective we realize that what could a newborn child have done wrong? Compared to the wretched sins a mere five year old has committed.

Now if Society was not evil would the following list of atrocities occur almost on a regular basis:
Terrorism
Child Pornography
Murder
Holocaust
Genocide
Abuse

(Post Voting Period)
This is another short story battle. You know the story (no pun intended). Vote based on your favorite stories!

1. Each round will consist of ONE SHORT STORY.
2. It can be absolutely any genre you want so long as it stays within the number of characters.
3. When you people vote I would appreciate it if you would make a comment on which story out of all of them was the best.
4. When making your story you must type a title to go with it so that people that vote can just type the title of the one/(s) they enjoyed.

Good luck!

Are "old" bands really better than newer ones?

(Voting Period) First of all, let's just consider "old" as Metallica and before...unless the band is still writing and releasing albums.

I find it extremely annoying just how overrated, in general, these bands are, at least sound-wise.

-Catchiness...

The purpose of the sound of a song is to be catchy, is it not? Isn't the main goal of the sound of a song to revolve around a catchy, entertaining, great-sounding chorus? Only a select few older musical groups could master this. They were great musicians...don't get me wrong. But their ability to write good sounding songs from beginning to end really wasn't all that great. Let's use Jimi Hendrix, for instance. He's probably the greatest guitarist ever...played left handed and with his teeth. But were the songs he wrote, such as "Purple Haze", all that great? Were they intense, entertaining, fast-paced, or catchy? Not really. Yeah, I guess the riff for "Purple Haze" is pretty cool. But what's more fun to listen to...Purp
