courts have the responsibilty to create racially balanced schools.

(Debating Period) 1)Negative assertion: In 1974 court ordered busing wasn"t the only strategy that could have desegregated Boston"s public schools.
Other options would be to give other options and more choices. Where you live is your choice so schools aren"t segregated by law. These options would cause less violence.
2)Negative assertion: Students and society will not benefit from more children attending racially integrated schools.
The surveys may not be right. This may only work in a poor community. Some of the groups won"t stick together.
3)Negative assertion: To create a desegregated school system a judge should not be able to tell parents where their children must attend school.
They should allow six choices and larger "zones". The new plan gives inequality due to the fact the judge could send all minorities to different schools then whites. This plan would give equality to blacks, Latinos and other minorities.

Courts have the responsibility to create racially balanced schools

(Debating Period) Affirmative assertion: In 1974 court ordered busing was the only strategy that could have desegregated Boston's public schools. Neighborhoods were segregated by the race and children went to neighborhood schools. Even though Boston built new schools they were still segregated. Everything just got worst in Boston and even after the law said schools had to be.
Affirmative assertion: To create a desegregated school system; a judge should be able to tell parents where their children must attend school. If students go to school closer to home, school might be re segregated. The judge's planed was to create schools that included children from several neighborhoods. The new plan would make kids go to bad schools in their neighborhoods.
Affirmative assertion: Courts have the power to reduce the effects of racial discrimination. Schools were run by the court and eventually desegregated. The police were used to reinforce Garrity"s decision. Judge Garrity told Boston

Courts have the responsibility to create racially balanced schools

(Debating Period) Negative assertion #1:
Court-ordered desegregation plans do more harm than good. Questions about schooling should be left to communities to solve.
Negative evidence: The court mixing black and whites is making it worse for the students to foces in school. Schools should stay with their own color and race.
Negative assertion #2
Courts are powerless to combat prejudice.
Negative evidence: Courts cant make you talk to someone you don"t like or feel comforable talking to. Courts can tell you what to do but does everyone really listen? I don"t think so.
Negative assertion #3:
Race should not be used as a basis for school assignment.
Negative evidence:
The last 20 years brown full forced public schools were growing more segregated nation has become racially diverse.
White kids go to a school that 80 percent white kids go to.
Yet they say no child left behind but black kids are not getting treated as equal as the whites.

Courts have the responsibility to create racially balanced schools

(Debating Period) Negative assertion: Race should not be used as a basis for school assignment

Evidence: Students attend a school that is 80% white, while 70% of black students attend schools where nearly two-thirds of students are black and spanish.

Evidence: Schools force teachers to teach kids they dont want to teach.

Evidence: Any policy based on race is a violation of every childs 14th amendment.

Evidence: Desegregation does not speak to dropout rates that hover near 50% for black and hispanic students.

Assertion #2: Courts have the power to reduce the effects of racial discrimination.

Evidence: People were still fighting.

Evidence: People who live in a particular neighborhood.

Evidence: A court can make a decision but can not change peoples minds.

Assertion #3: To create a desegregated school system, a judge should not be able to tell parents where their children must attend school.

Evidence: The mayor thinks the new plan will create quality

Should homework be banned in middle and elementary schools?

(Debating Period) I believe homework in elementary schools should be banned.

I believe this mainly because 88% of students grades 3-8 participate in at least 1 out of school activity after school, and with homework, this can cause them to be jam-packed and/or stressed.

chess sucks

(Debating Period) However stimulatory chess may be, and I do forcuncuate that it is a brilliant game, it is not practical. Have you ever sat down with a friend and say, "Hey! We have a couple minutes, lets play some chess! I'll be white!" Despite the racial puns that could be inserted, chess is not practical unless you have a lot of time and the skill to do so. I am a novice at chess, my rear is pulinificated every time I play somebody, but most of the time we just get bored and play some football. So although chess is fortucerebellius, it is not the best game in the world.

School kills creativity

(Voting Period) Students think that once they come to school that all their creative juices have to stop working, but that doe not need to be the case. They can express the creativity in different ways, such as a creative writing class or a group project where everyone in the group can put their own spin on the topic. There are also other outlets to express creativity, the person just needs to find a way to let their creative juices flowing. If you enjoy playing instruments then join band, and if you enjoy singing then join chorus. You do not need to put your creativity on hold just because you are in school for a couple of hours during the day.

British Teachers Often Don't Afford Students The Credit Of Intelligence

(Voting Period)

I am a 13 year-old with a rather uncommon disorder named Aspergers Syndrome, this means that I am able to challenge the modern psyche of children are inferior to adults, which some people take for granted and have never thought to challenge. Essentially, even when it isn't a smart thing to do, my brain makes me say things to teachers which I regret later. I first truly realised the extent of teachers disrespect for their pupils on the 21st of may at 2 o'clock. I had recived a detention based on the school's new "double removal system" which has evidently been set up to punish repeat offenders who have given up on school and think there is nothing left in education. I had recieved the detention for not having my homework diary signed. I immediatelly thought that this was unfair, on the whole, I behave impeccably towards my betters and I didn't see why I s

Homeschooling is better than Public or Private School

(Voting Period)
Now, I must say something up front, I will not be on this site from Monday till' Friday. So as odd as it sounds, a round will be forfeited by both sides to let me get back from being a State Page where I will not have regular internet access.

So, here are the basic rules:

Stay Civil

Use Spell-Check (please)

Use sources/logic/experience to back up your claims and/or contentions

Wikipedia is not, I repeat, not a source.

Experience should be a secondary, if not last, resort as support for a claim/contention. It should be used more as a way to give examples and illustrations.

Round 1 is acceptance

A round will be forfeited at no expense to either side (Must be the same round for both parties and AFTER round 1 and 2).

'Nuff said.

Philosophy and the humanities are underrated in education.

(Post Voting Period)
I would like to thank my esteemed opponent in advance for accepting this debate. I look forward to what I hope will be a very thought provoking and insightful discussion :)

For all intents and purposes, I believe the resolution is pretty straight-forward. By underrated, I will be arguing that increasing the focus in humanities and/or philosophy in education, particularly higher education, would be beneficial to society. I will contend that there is an increasing problematic trend in delegitimizing the pursuit of knowledge in these areas, while there is instead a particular emphasis on specializing in particular fields of expertise. Often, the value of these genres is underrated in comparison to other subject matter such as those that are technological in nature.

I again thank my opponent for accepting this challenge. I stand in firm affirmation of the resolution, and I am much looking forward to posting my opening argument

(Voting Period) Is college worth it? Is it worth paying big money to an institution for higher learning or is it overrated?

Rules:
-First round acceptance (feel free to make your points first round if you want)
-No new arguments in the last round
-Keep it clean

To make both sides clear, I will be arguing that college is worth it and my opponent will be arguing that it isn't. I wish you good luck and have fun with it.
