George Bush Was a Good President

(Voting Period) I would like to open up my argument by saying that I believe that President George W. Bush did a great job as president and does not deserve all of the criticism he received when he left office. I will support this statement by using these arguments:

a) Bush reacted to the best of his ability in the 9/11 situation. He worked fast and efficiently under enormous amounts of pressure.

b) He always did what he thought was right. Bush did not cave into the demands of Congress and the people, he did not base his decisions on polls or advisers Bush always did what he thought was right and he should be respected for that.

c) Bush did not cause the "economic crisis" we are in now. Bush had no control over the banks and their loaning habits. Why would that be any concern to the president at all. It was the Clinton administration that allowed banks to push forward into "risky deals". Not Bush.

d) The events that took place during Hurricane Katrina severely hu

Barack Obama is overall, a worst President than George W. Bush

(Post Voting Period) I have just joined Debate and hope that I follow the rules as well as etiquette. I have looked at some of your positions and man we can debate a lot. I looked at your statements in the same as this debate title and you are the kind of person I learn from debating. Your statements are based for the most part on facts, you do not throw barbs and seem to be willing to stay on task. There are a couple of things that appear not on point for me. 1. There are not many people voting and I question if much can be derived from the results. 2. Not one for the con? Is that an indication of the leanings of the members of this site? Only four voted, all for you and one was you. Is this a who is going to win debate and the voting is stacked. Since this is my firs attempt, I would still like to give a whirl and see how influential the discussion can be on opinions. I do not care who "wins", I care if learning occurs and each is understood by the other - not agree or disagree.

George Bush is an idiot

(Post Voting Period) Understand that I am Con in this debate.

In one of the Forum threads, http://www.debate.org/forums/politics/topic/4459/8/ ddo member emmalmalcolm made the claim "Bush is actually an idiot. Obama is a brilliant lawyer, professor, speaker and author. You can disagree with his policy but that's just fact." The claim is common. I challenged emmalmalcolm to defend the claim, but emmalmalcolm, despite having been on the site, let the challenge expire. So now I am opening the challenge to anyone who believes they can make the case.

The claim being so apparently outrageous, it is appropriate to require that Pro bear the burden of proof and make a case as to why that claim is true. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

So we each have equal space to debate, I will not present any argument in this opening statement, and Pro agrees to pass in the final half of R4.

To get us started, a standard dictionary definition of "idiot" is:

Idiot:

George Bush is a good president

(Voting Period) George Bush has destroyed our nation.
1. He implimented No Child Left Behind, overcrowding our good schools and still leaving our bad schools to be bad.
2. He created the Iraq War for the purpose of finding weapons of mass destruction, stopping terrorism, and promoting democracy. They vote, they have no WMDs, and terrorism will NEVER be stopped, and Iraq has nothing to do with it.
3. He lowered out economy significantly, lower than most African nations.
4. He raised gas prices, making transport difficult.
5. He created the Patriot Act, making our constitution invalid and thereby creating a catalyst to destroy our entire constitution. If the terrorists threaten our free speech, then we will revoke that, etc. Who is to say that we will get rid of freedom of religion and convert everybody into muslims after the next 9/11.
6. He failed to do ONE good thing for America.

Was George W. Bush a good President?

(Post Voting Period) George W. Bush is a great man indeed. He has cut funding from schools and libraries, opposed abortion even in cases of rape or incest, taken away half of the Environmental Protection Agency's budget, the list goes on. But the one blunder we all took notice of was invading Iraq. He invaded on the pretext that there were WMD's there, but the U.N. weapons inspectors found no trace of them whatsoever before that. Oh, cut it out George, we all know what it was for - OIL. That's right, petroleum to keep the SUVs (whose makers, by the way, were the biggest contributors to your election campaign) on the roas. You wouldn;t need oil if you had made them keep to the fuel efficiency standards imposed by the Clinton Administration, but we've all seen how much you care about the environment, putting a former oil company employee in the cahir of head of the Envoronmental Protection Agency. You shouldn't even be President, it is documented that you cheated in your election. Al

Was George W. Bush good for America, and for the wider world?

(Post Voting Period) Structure is as follows:
1.Present arguments
2.Rebuttals
3.Voters

I believe George W. Bush is NOT good for America, and the wider world for three reasons.

1. He did not win office in a democratic way
2.His policies leave much to be desired
3. Intelligence is not one of his virtues

1. He did not win office in a democratic way.

It would seem that in a democratic society where citizens are allowed to vote, that they would get the final say in electing their leader, right? Not in the case of George W. Bush. He lost the 2000 election popular vote to Al Gore, yet he won because he was appointed by supreme court judges that were placed there by Ronald Reagan during his presidency. George W. Bush was not elected by the majority of people, where in a democracy, that is key. Therefore. George W. Bush was not good for America because the majority of voters did not want him as their leader.

2. Bush's policies destroyed our economy, and left blame to the

RESOLVED: George Bush should be regarded as America's best President

(Voting Period) George Bush is defined as our current president.

President is defined as the official in charge of our president.

Regarded is defined as considered.

Best, in my opinion, is defined as the most productive and capable [president], yet this word is extremely subjective in this debate.

My two contentions so begin are as follows:

1) President Bush has never faultered in his existence

2) President Bush is a rolemodel to the world, leading the greatest nation to an unimaginable prosperity

3) President Bush, in essence, defines benevolence

I will elaborate later but I am currently in a time constraint.

(Voting Period) **Disclaimer: although I do believe that Co-President Cheney had some knowledge of 9/11 beforehand and did not tell Co-President Bush, this debate will follow the assumption that it was not known about beforehand and was not an inside job, should that come up.**
**Disclaimer part 2: When I say President Bush, I usually mean both Bush and Cheney, or simply Cheney's ventriloquism.**
On September 11, 2001, four planes were hijacked. Two crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City (although I do believe that the buildings were really ugly, that is not how they should have gone). One crashed into the hub of national security, the Pentagon in Washington D.C. One was believed to have been aimed towards the White House, but it was diverted to a field in Pennsylvania. September 11, 2001 will live in way more infamy than December 7th, 1941. Why is that? 9/11 was a foreign terrorist attack. Pearl Harbor was an act of war. So, America had a pe

(Voting Period) This is 4 rounds so that both sides have a chance to give an opening statement before debating.

John McCain and George W. Bush... What can I say?
Both in love with the Iraq War? Check.
Both infringe our freedoms? Check.
Both treated better because of their fathers? Check. (McCain wasn't killed off as a P.O.W. because his captors knew his father was a high-ranking officer)
Both will be/are complained about but still voted for? Check.
Both have/will run the country on fear? Check.

I will not compare them both being republican because they are the most liberal republicans ever.

(Voting Period) First, I would like to say to anyone who disagrees with my viewpoint, vote on the debate; not the topic.

Next, I would like to thank whoever accepts this debate.

Third, I would like to give my esteemed opponent the luxury of giving his or her constructive first, after I set a few parameters.

Before any prospective debater accepts, read these parameters, if you do not like these parameters, don't accept the debate. Voters must assume that you accept the parameters if you accept this debate.

Parameters: First, we are talking about the George W. Bush that is the current president of the United States of America, the nation founded in 1776, on planet Earth in North America.

Next, by impeach I mean the way it is used in the US Constitution. The constitution says "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misde

George Bush: Good Candidate...Bad Timing

(Voting Period) George Bush...

Not a day goes by when someone does not refer to him as the worst president in American History. Seriously??? Some people need to learn their history. How about Ulysses S. Grant, whose administration was the author of the greatest government scandals in US History. Then theres John Adams, who stiffened our economy and passed laws that made it illegal to talk badly about government leaders. When John Quincy Adams left office our country was in a serious recession and EVERYBODY hated him. He refused to pass public works projects and seemed to do nothing else but sit in the oval office and doze off. President Hoover...President Taft...

Now my point is, however, that Bush isn't the worst president ever. I just like bashing ignorance. No, what I'm really going to argue is this...

George W. Bush's legacy, his performance, and his reputation are all the products of the unfortunate events that took place during his administration. The events

George W. Bush is probably the worst President of all Time.

(Voting Period) The first person that took this debate wasted many peoples time by not responding to the debate. Hopefully the next person to take the debate seriously thank yo

I would like to thank the person who debates me in this issue for taking their position and providing me with a chance to compare ideas. I would like to also thank the many people I know will be adding their comments and eventually voting. I simply ask if you are going to bad talk president Bush please do so humanely (this is a family friendly debate =) .

I will like to keep the first topic concise so I can see where my opponent wants to take the debate. In this debate I will give a few reasons why I believe that President Bush is among the worst presidents of all times.

I. He has been classified as a conservative and has claimed to run as one despite the fact that he is far from conservative.

a. Fiscally he has increased government spending to almost three times as much as president Clinton

(Voting Period) We've all heard the shameful America-bashing from the, Enlightened Ones-the Actors and actresses, reporters and other Bush-bashers who think they walk on water. Id want to know why the media elite gives these tiny minds a pass when they blast the president and his cabinet with adjectives such as "ignorant," "Moronic," and "Stupid." Just because you do not agree with the President does not make him stupid. If you did not vote for him it certainly does not mean that you can just disrespect him. He is still your president weather you like it or not. I cant stand Bill Clinton! I believe he has made many bad decisions in his life and did little for this country but that doesn't mean he is stupid! I also did not vote for him but it doesn't mean he wasn't my president. I respect him because he was my president, and that's about all. But never the less I still do respect him.
