Is marriage a gay rights issue.

(Post Voting Period) Should marriage as an institution be a gay rights issue? The argument that often occurs, is should homosexuals have the same access to marriage as heterosexuals. I pose a different question. Should the institution of a religious union be apart of government?

This is to exclude the idea of a legal union for gaining access to custody of children, homes, insurance, ect.. and to have a merit in court should a disagreement in ownership or access occur.

I argue no.

Reason: Anytime a law can give access to one group, it gains the ability to remove the same access. Allowing government to control marriage has lead to a disgusting polarization among people. It is a distracting issue that takes away from issues, voters should be concerned with. Does this mean that discrimination might and probably will occur thanks to religious institution? Yes, it is their right, just as it is the Phelps family has the right to disgrace fallen soldiers every day. To limit an i

Gay marriage should be legal.

(Post Voting Period) <div>This debate is as simple as the title makes out. &nbsp;Gay Marriage, or SSM, is defined as "<span>a legally recognized union of a same-sex couple". &nbsp;Civil union is defined as "<span>a legally recognized union of a same-sex couple, but with less benefits than a Gay Marriage".<br /><br />First round is acceptance and definitions.&nbsp;<br /><br />Copy and paste of contentions is not allowed without citation, unless one is copying and pasting from one's own material (which needs to be cited clearly as your own work).&nbsp;</span></span></div>

Gay Marriage should be legal.

(Voting Period) This is meant to be a friendly debate about basic human rights, created primarily because I am terminally bored.

Homosexuals, be they male or female, aren't part of some secret sect, they aren't in any way different physically, mentally or emotionally, their political views are just as collectively diverse as heterosexual views, their private activities with each other should be dismissed as none of anyone's business just as easily as the private activities of heterosexual people.

Let them marry if they so wish, they're ultimately no different from heterosexuals, they just have alternative tastes in intimacy.

gay marriage

(Post Voting Period) I would appreciate if you accepted this debate Resolution homosexuals should be able to marry

contention 1- not only is not allowing gays a violation of the so proposed ideology of america being equal but it is also preposterous on the idea that if homosexuals
want to be miserable in a marriage then let them "we the people of the united states are endowed with three unalienable rights the right to liberty, freedom, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS" does this not imply or state that men can pursue other men or marry other men if this makes them happy and if everyone has these unalienable right's does this not say or imply that we're equal
observation1- what are straight men and women afraid of? that gays will have a better long lasting marriage and won't fall or crumble when shaken (any homesexuals marriage)
contention2- how can the goverment decide if gay marriage is wrong or right
for reasons not known to me the goverment banned gay marriage and the eq

Gay Marriage

(Post Voting Period) Gay marrigae should be allowed in all 50 states.

There are several aspects to gay marriage. The bible/church, basic human rights, and wether homosexuality is a choice or not.

THe bible VERY clearly forbids gay marriage in the Old testament, but says nothing about it in the NEW testament. Jesus never preached anything about gays or gay marriage being wrong. Gays were often cast out of society. Jesus welcomed the outcast. He preached to love everyone, including your enemies. Many churches also forbid interacial and interfaith relationships, yet those are legal.

As human beings. we have certain rights. One of them marriage. People say gay marriage is unnatural when in reality it exists in over 450 species, including humans.

Homosexuality IS NOT a choice. Many studies have confirmed that whether you are gay or not lies in genes. In fact MANY studies confirm that there are more genes to confirm wether or not you are gay than there are when determing if

Should Gay marriage be legalized

(Post Voting Period) As this debate will discuss the reasons for legalizing same-sex marriage compared to the reasons not to do so, in this round I will discuss some of the most important reasons to recognize the practice.
A primary question that must be asked in this debate is what does it mean for a society to have marriages that are recognized legally?
Marriage is not only the formal union of a man and a woman which recognized by law, and by which they get status as husband and wife but also the essential part where people can express their love and became a family. From the past until now traditional family includes a wife, a husband and their children. However, not everyone is legally able to get married. A love shared by two people of the same sex cannot get such status as married because same- sex marriage is prohibited and our society cannot understand gay's position.
The first argument for legalizing gay marriages is that gay marriages do not hurt or affect any society

A Christian Ought to Vote Against Gay Marriage

(Post Voting Period) Introduction

The purpose of this debate is to open a dialogue to discuss the role of a Christian in the political/social arena. Gay Marriage was chosen as a topic in order to spark lively debate.

Arguments

Within the Christian community there are those that believe that a Christian should not vote against Gay Marriage ballots because it is a secular (Western) society that we live in. With a culture or society there are many values that are held that are either unique to that culture or shared with the broader world culture. As Man is made in the image of God we expect that culture, a creation of man, would show examples of creativity, beauty, and goodness. Unfortunately, because Man is also fallen and we are saddled with a sinful, destructive, and selfish nature than it would follow that Man's creation would also exhibit similar manifestations. What arises from this is cultural values that are good and some that are bad; I will give an example of each.

Gay Marriage Should Be Legalized.

(Voting Period) I've been trying to challenge some few individuals on this topic, but none of them seem to accept for whatever reasons. So I guess I'll just make another open debate.

I intend to argue that any LGBT marriage should be legalized, and thus when I say "gay", I am referring to LGBT.

My sole argument is that gay people have the same rights to marry as do heterosexual people. The word "marriage" does not need to be a definite prerequisite - the only thing that should happen is for gays to have the same rights as heterosexuals. Civil unions can be an appropriate alternative, but only until it has the exact same rights as marriage (of which it currently does not).

I will allow my opponent to go first and I will refute his/her arguments accordingly.

Should we legalize gay marriage on federal grounds?

(Post Voting Period) Gay marriage in the United States has been a struggling debate for many years. Although some states recognize gay marriages as legal, the federal government does not, and still some states only recognize gay couples as "civil unions". Being in a civil union restricts the benefits that a normal married couple would ultimately receive. With that being said, same-sex couples would be denied even simple rights such as medical decision making. In a country that cherishes its freedom and liberty and encourages differences, why are we discriminating against the gay minorities? Love should be the only thing that matters in a marriage, and if it's between two people of the same sex, let it be. This form of marriage isn't hurting anyone so why stop it? I strongly believe that the federal government should legalize gay marriage and stop discriminating these people in this way.

Gay marriage should be legalized in the United States (2)

(Voting Period) Gay marriage should not be legalized, for many reasons. One, it is immoral and is banned in most major religions. Second, it is unnatural. A family must consist of one man and one woman to carry out their respective motherly and fatherly roles. A same sex couple can not use this universal rule of marriage, and can definitely not raise adopted children the same way biological children of opposite sex couples are raised. Third, if gay marriage is legalized in the United States, think of the repercussions... the people will then start demanding legalization of other unnatural and immoral forms of marriages and sexual relationships, such as polygamy and sodomy.
