Humans Cause Global Warming

(Post Voting Period) Rules: R1 acceptance and opening statements. No points or arguments.
R2 beginning arguments no refutation.
R3 refutations and arguments.
R4 same as R3
R5 rebuttals only points and refutations allowed that you have already made. I cannot stress that enough.

I believe the sun is an ever changing celestial body. I do not think that humans can have a big enough impact to change the climate. If the temperature is changing it is the sun.

There is no way to even ballpark what percentage of global warming is caused by CO2 gases.

(Voting Period) Most global warming fans will admit that CO2 (both natural and man-made) is just one of the many factors that contribute to global warming, both present and past. Most will also admit that long before cars and factories came about, wild temperature swings in both directions occurred under relatively stable CO2 levels. Additionally, most will admit there is no reason to believe these natural (non-CO2) factors are not contributing to the current warming trend. If this is the case, the percentage of warming caused by CO2 gases (in comparison to other natural factors in play) is entirely unknowable. We are only sure that CO2 (man-made or otherwise) is responsible for somewhere between 0 and 100 percent of the current warming trend.

Global warming: A dentriment to Botswana's efforts of being self sufficient

(Post Voting Period) "Botswana faces harsh climatic conditions in 50 years due to the effects of global warming. Climate change will decimate the country's wildlife and water resources and displace many Batswana who will be forced to flee drying up areas in search of places with better water resources" Anthropologist Richard Leakey

Global Warming is Good

(Post Voting Period) Global warming, the act of putting unnatural heat into the atmosphere, is harmful to the world. According to McClure and Stiffler in 2007, Warming is in fact real and the leading climate scientists are agreeing that warming needs to be stopped. "The world's leading climate scientists are reporting that they are basically certain that burning gasoline, coal and other fossil fuels has unnaturally heated the atmosphere -- and the effects are likely to last for centuries." They add that, "Warming is likely to mean intensified droughts and heat waves, along with unusually strong storms. The scientists also highlighted an increasingly worrisome global trend; acidification of the oceans, which could unravel the marine web of life."

Added, according to Deibel in 2007, "there is one major existential threat, which demands urgent action. It is the threat of global warming to the stability of the blimate upon which all earthly life depends. It is virtually impossible

Do we need to do more to stop global warming?

(Voting Period) We need to do more to stop global warming. Global warming is happening and human activity is the main cause for global warming. Although, general consensus is the acceptance of existence of global warming, only limited amount of efforts have been done to prevent further catastrophe.

(Post Voting Period) The debate will go in the following order:

Round one: Intro

Round two: main round/ Case

Round three: CX

Round four: conclusion.

My opponent will answer the following questions as well as use these questions as a base for his contentions:
Are electric cars helpful in fighting global warming?
Are electric cars economical?
Are electric cars compatible with electric grids?
Are electric cars reliable?

My opponent also agrees that i could use the same case as i did in my previous debate. http://www.debate.org/debates/Electric-cars-should-be-a-priority-in-plans-to-fight-global-warming/1/

One should work against global warming and avoid extinction from it, even if it is non-anthropogenic

(Post Voting Period) First, I would like to make sure that anyone who might accept this debate realizes that an underlying premise of this topic is that global warming exists and will cause human extinction if left unaltered. You have to subscribe to some very close form of this premise if you want to debate. You can define what your version/interpretation of this premise is in the next post.

Therefore use the next post for this task as well as acceptance of the debate, and then immediately begin discussing. I will begin my argument right now as well, however I want to reserve the right to abort the debate without penalty from the voters if I disagree strongly with any of the aforementioned interpretations/definitions you put forth during your acceptance. However, I think it's unlikely to come to this, and I will have a high tolerance for disagreement on this issue and will incorporate any sub-threshold disagreements into the argument.

Global Warming is Entirely Caused By Humans

(Voting Period) My argument is that, while global warming may have been intensified by human influence (CO2 emissions, methane emissions, etc.), it is also a product of the Earth itself and this should be considered when reporting on the drastic effects of global warming. The ice caps will melt and water levels will rise. These are leftovers from the most recent ice age, the Quaternary glaciation (1), and should be expected to melt as we move toward the Holocene epoch (2). Rainforests and deserts will change, but this has happened before. Global warming, while real, is not entirely a result of our actions.

The human effect on global warming is significant.

(Voting Period) (Paraphrased from http://www.debate.org/debate/8325/)

I'm not sure how well I worded the debate resolution, so I will explain further. This is a scientific debate about whether humans are driving global warming and whether it is a problem. Not all evidence has to be inherently scientific, but all evidence should give reasons to believe that the human effect on global warming is significant (PRO) or insignificant (CON).

Definitions
Human effect: Effect caused by unnatural human actions; this includes sources such as factories and power plants but excludes sources such as natural respiration.

Global warming: an increase in the earth's average atmospheric and oceanic temperature that causes corresponding changes in climate and that may result from the greenhouse effect. (dictionary.com)

CO2: Carbon dioxide.

AGW: Anthropogenic global warming; global warming caused by human activities.
