We should relax restrictions on guns

(Voting Period) Here are some things I agree with:
1. Universal background checks
2. The prevention of allowing guns in the hands of people with certain mental health conditions. Although we cant stop them, I agree that they shouldn't have guns as easily as others.
3. People kill people, not guns. If everyone was armed, there would be less crime because nobody would want to commit crime against an armed person.
4. There should be armed policemen at every school, he can stop the killer before he even kills any innocent lives.

With that being said, gun restrictions can make everything worse because it would create a black market which would kill more people. The same thing happened with alcohol, marijuana, and prostitution. If there is something that people want, they will get it. Criminals don't follow laws, to anyone who simply says that it would make it harder for them to get it: this may be slightly true, but reality is they will find a way.

For example, Switzerlan

Gun Control is wrong and the government shouldn't infringe on the Second Amendment

(Debating Period) The government should not infringe on the Second Amendment Obama is far from the solution on Gun Control. Why should people tell me what to use to protect my family. if it's an AR-15 or a double barreled shotgun that I use, it should be fine. The NRA is closer to the solution than the Liberals are on Capitol Hill are. The 2nd Amendment says a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. A person with a gun is a lot faster in dealing with an intruder than the police. An average time for police to respond to a 911 call is about 4 minutes and a private citizen response is about 30 seconds. Which one is faster and gets the job done quicker?

(Voting Period) I believe that the lack of gun control in the Unites States is a serious danger to the public, in nations with full gun control the homicide rate, armed robbery rate, and suicide rates are much lower.

Resolved: Hitler vs Justin Bieber

(Challenge Period)
After doing thorough research I have failed to find a single debate that addresses the issue of who is more evil, Hitler or Justin Bieber? This is an issue that millions of people ask themselves every day, and it is apalling that this topic has not been debated here on DDO. After making this discovery I realized that as the head troll of the site it is my sworn duty to bring this legendary debate ready to happen into fruition, and I will be arguing that Bieber is indeed worse then Hitler.

This is a complete legit debate (that I intend to troll anyways) and I fully expect this to become the debate of the month here on DDO.

4 rounds
6000 characters
Con may give only an initial statement in his first round, meaning it doesnt have to be acceptance only and con may give a little background info of each person or lay out how he/she will make their case.
<br

Should the United States have more and stronger laws for gun control?

(Debating Period) Hi, before we start I'd just like to welcome my opponent whoever it may be and say that I look forward to a friendly and reasonable argument. So lets start things off. Several amendments in the bill of rights come with limitations, such as freedom of speech and freedom of religion. You have freedom of speech, but you can't yell bomb on an airplane or threaten the president. You have freedom of religion, but it cannot contain human sacrifices as a part of it. It seems as if there are little to no limits on the second amendment, and the limits that it does have are not on par with the limits on other rights. However, the second amendment is also a much more dangerous right for certain people to have and should have stronger limits on it because of the potential dangers it creates.

First off let's start with the biggest possible restriction being considered; a national ban on assault weapons. I agree with this restriction, but to me it depends on what they def

Does Israel torture Palestinians?

(Post Voting Period) I've done this debate twice already but I haven't had a good debate in a while and I'm looking forward to one. I'd like to thank my opponent in advance and wish him luck.

Israel is the only country in the world whose judiciary has squarely faced the difficult issue of whether it is ever justified to engage in even a modified form of nonlethal torture unlike the current methods being used by the United States on captured al-Qaeda prisoners in order to obtain information deemed necessary to prevent a ticking bomb from killing dozens of civilians.

On September 6, 1999, the Israeli Supreme Court decided that not only is torture absolutely prohibited but even the types of physical pressure currently being used by the United States sleep deprivation, forced uncomfortable positions, loud music, shaking, hoods over the head are prohibited by Israeli law, even in cases in which the pressure is used not to elicit a confession but rather to elicit information that c

Individualism is societally destructive

(Post Voting Period)
I've made this impossible for anyone to accept, if anyone wants to debate this comment or PM me.

Individualism is defined by Merriam Webster as: "a doctrine that the interests of the individual are or ought to be ethically paramount"

Destruction is synonymous with ruinous. My advocacy will essentially be that the individualism that has sweeped the world, particularly the West, since the enlightenment is responsible for many of society's current ills, along with showing sociologically the inevitable effects of such an individualistic state of mind.

No semantics, I have no interest arguing over what societally destructive means. If my opponent tries to make this an issue, they forfeit the debate. First round is for acceptance and no new arguments in the last round.

Negotiations for the TPP agreement should be abandoned

(Post Voting Period) Welcome one and all to the grand finals of the second ELO tournament. Special thanks to Noumena for setting things up, Raisor for suggesting an interesting subject as well as agreeing to the final motion and everybody else who competed for making things fun. Extra-special thanks to anybody that votes. Just try to remember to be fair and constructive if you can.

The TPP agreement is a little acronym for the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic "Partnership", which is basically a free trade deal. A mini-version of this deal, called the P4 agreement (of which my country is a signatory, along with Chile, Singapore and Brunei) has existed since 2005, but since then loads of other countries (including the USA and most recently Japan) have tried to negotiate their way into the deal. In this debate, I will argue that this is a dumb idea. In fact, I reckon all of these agreements have been a waste of time.

I'd like to wish my opponent good luck and, after this accepta

(Post Voting Period) Rules of debate:
1. Censor all vulgar vocabulary with pound (*) better yet, try not to cuss at all.
2. Mention nothing of gay marriage. It is off topic and too minor for this debate.
3. Be Clear, be fair

First Argument:
First I will state my thesis:

1. Hate Crimes
2. Gun Control
3. Banning sodas (why the heck would you do that??!?)

1. Hate Crimes

The metal band Threshold has a song called, Return Of The Thought Police. It does explaining on this subject. If you are going to say that if you do a crime, and you hate the person you committed the crime against, then you get extra penalty. You would put in jail for three years for murder, instead of two, because the person that you commit the crime against, stole your girlfriend. So therefore this person's life is based on something as trivial as girlfriends (in a political view, girlfriends will help your life).
Soon that will turn into corruption of the Judicial branch. People will get hig

Should marijuana be legalized?

(Post Voting Period) This debate topic will be on whether or not cannabis for consenting adults should be made legal.

I will be arguing the pro side while my opponent will be arguing against it.

===ARGUMENTS===

1.

Cannabis use is not unhealthy:

Not one university or or medical facility has ever recorded a single death directly attributed to marijuana. Tobacco on the other hand has an average of 443,000 deaths a year, and alcohol has an average of 80,000 deaths a year. Both drugs however are legal.

In order to get a lethal dose of delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol, you would have to smoke around 15,000 joints in 20 minutes.

Marijuana does not kill brain cells. In fact recent studies show that marijuana actually stimulate brain cell growth.

Smoking can be harmful because of the properties of smoke, not as a result of anything in the cannabis plant. However it does not need to be smoked, it can be inhaled through a vaporizer.

2.

Marijuana is not addictive.
