Gay Marraige Should Be Allowed.

(Voting Period) Gays should be allowed to marry partners of their choice just as heterosexual couples do. It is ignorant in today's world to deny such a basic right to an individual because of something that is innate. Yes, sexuality is not a choice, it is innate.

For my first point, let me state that a civil union is not a reasonable compromise for a legal marriage. Most civil unions don't have the same rights as a legal marriage has. Even if we made all civil unions exactly equal to legal marriage but called it something else, it wouldn't be enough. The concept of "separate but equal" has already failed. Segregation is not a solution when it comes to rights. History has proven this.

Secondly, where is the benefit of oppressing gays from marrying? Religion isn't an answer. Religion is the excuse. Those who claim it is immoral are really just ignorant and foolish. In the case of Christianity, the bible states to do unto others what you would like done onto you. How woul

Homosexual Behavior Is Immoral

(Voting Period) I wish to thank my opponent for engaging me in this debate. I look forward to a spirited exchange.

I will be defending the historic Christian position that homosexual behavior is immoral. Using the same method that Paul employed in Romans 1:26-27, I will argue that homosexuality is wrong because it is unnatural, meaning that it is contrary to the proper functioning of human sexual organs. Additionally, because both myself and my opponent are Christians, I will also make use of Biblical passages to support my position.

[[--Natural Revelation--]]

Let me begin with an analogy. The purpose of eyes is to see. We say that one has a pair of "good" eyes if they function in accordance with their purpose. By that same token, we say that one has a pair of "bad" eyes if they do not function in accordance with their purpose. Now, since good is something that ought to be pursued (that's the definition of good), the proper thing to do with bad eyes is to turn them i

Solarman1969 should be removed from Debate.org

(Voting Period) Well Solarman, you challenged me to debate you, and here I am. Defend yourself, oh mighty knowledgeable, unquestionable elder.

Solarman1969 should be removed from this site. I will first clarify that I am not saying this our of contradiction to his opinions, as I do respect them. we have a 52.63% disagreement ratio, which means we agree on something. No, rather my "beef" is the presentation of his topics. His purposes for being on this site do not seem to be to inspire change, add to the public knowledge, or better the world, though I'm sure he'll contest. It seems from the debates of his I've read (yes, all of them, in full, including comments) which can be found here: http://www.debate.org/Solarman1969 , that he does have potentially good topics, including hydrogen fuel and man made global climate change. However, all are ruined by his undeniable rudeness, calling people, and I quote: shmucks, Stalinist's, liberals (derogatorily), fools, morons, evil, dumm

Gay Marriage Should Be Legalized.

(Voting Period) Gay Marriage should be a legal form of marriage for the simple fact that disallowing LGBT groups to marrying is taking a right that should be theirs.

I'll let you go first, as I am contending that there are no substantial legal reasons to disallow same-sex marriage, and thus it should be a right for any LGBT couple to marry.

If one is both homeless and unemployable, one should rob a bank.

(Voting Period) Thanks to whoever accepts this debate.

I will make this round no longer than it needs to be by providing some simple points, then drawing a conclusion from them.

1. Being homeless would suck compared to being rich.

This is pretty obvious. Eating garbage vs. eating whatever you want. Freezing in winter vs. being comfortably warm. Using a cardboard box as a blanket vs. using a Hannah Montana bedspread... erm, I mean, a real manly bedspread with pictures of beer and stuff on it. And steaks.

2. If the robber is successful, he would be rich.

Obvious, no need to expand.

3. If the robber is unsuccessful (i.e. gets caught), he will be imprisoned.

People in prison live in luxury compared to the homeless. Three squares a day, a roof over their head, some gainful employment. They also use smokes as currency so the formerly-homeless would not feel too out of his/her element.

CONCLUSION: If a person is homeless and unemployable, he/she should rob a

Marijuana Legalization

(Voting Period) I think marijuana should be legalized. For the purposes of the debate, let's assume laws under legalization would make pot similar to alcohol (21 age limit, no driving under the influence, etc.)

1. Other substances
Alcohol impairs you more, yet is legal. Cigarettes offer all of the same health concerns, but offer no significant benefit (high) and most cigarette smokers smoke more than marijuana users on a daily basis. Also, marijuana has been medically proven to be non-habit-forming, unlike cigarettes and alcohol.

2. Tax revenue
The government could tax and regulate the marijuana industry, generating state revenue at a time when it is needed. Also, the birth of a high demand industry would foster jobs and economic growth.

3. Criminals
With the ever growing popularity of marijuana, middle-class people who are not drug or street savvy are having to deal with dangerous people and frequent the more suspect areas of town to procure their product. Legaliz

Welcome ladies and gentlemen of the jury. We all want a quick trial, so let's proceed immediately to the charges against izbo10.

Izbo10 shows open contempt towards a large number of DDO users and has initiated personal vendettas against many of them (both vote bombing those users and harassing them).
Gay Marriage

(Voting Period) As far as controvercial topics go, Gay marriage is one of the biggest ones, but it doesnt have to be. Why is gay marriage such a controvercial topic? Closed minded self-richeous people who are too stuck in their ways, they are the reason its such a controvercial topic. I'm not saying that everyone has to think that being a homosexual is right, or that everyone should be, but for goodness sake, why stop two people from having the right to marry eachother? "You cant get married because youre gay". That sounds an aweful lot to me like saying "You cant get married because youre black." or "You cant get married because youre catholic." Discriminating against someones sexual orientation is just as good as discriminationg against their color, as far as i'm concerned. Let me guess, the next arguement will be "You can't controal color, but you can controal who youre attracted to." Wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong. Sure, smeone can act like theyre controaling it, but reall

Affirmative Action is Right and Necessary

(Voting Period) early american settlers were racist. they captured people in africa, forced them to work in america under ridiculous conditions, then freed them and left them homeless; many families were broken up to begin with, so a lot of households had no nuclear fmaily at its core.

once freed, black people had a hard time finding work due to discrimination. many found blue collar jobs as time went on and endured harsh work conditions because they had no other choice. they worked for low wages; this caused them to live in bad conditions otherwise known as "ghettos."

because of bad working/living conditions, many blacks turned to crime as a way to earn money or get ahead. and thus they acquired the black sterotype that all african americans are criminals. meanwhile there were hardworking men and women trying to raise families and live by the words of MLK, who was assassinated for speaking out for equality.

the blacks have been repeatedly repressed, critisized and s

(Voting Period) My opponent shows clear signs of being a pedophile which I will outline in my further arguments.

My first, rather short, line of evidence will be his avatar (At the time of the creation of this opening argument) , a character known a pedo bear on the chans. It is a clear sign of pedophilia, as pedo bear is an example of an active pedophile bear, which regularly rapes 'lolis'.

(Voting Period) Before I begin my argument, I would like to ask everyone who is voting in this debate to vote not based upon your own opinion. Please do not vote for one of us just because your opinions support one of us. Vote for the person who advanced their arguements better and rebutted their opponent's arguments better. Thank you.

Now to the actual debate.

My first argument is that gay people are still people. Just because one part of them is different, and they prefer people of the same gender, does not mean that we can shun them from society. We don't shun people from marrying people of different religions, or of different races. Then why should we shun people from marrying people of the same gender?

I believe we should preserve dying languages for the following reasons:

1. Archaeological aid.
