Water Boarding is indeed torture.

(Voting Period) I will assume that my opponet has not been water-boarded by the U.S. Military. I can say honestly that I have never been water-boarded. With that being said my opponet and I cannot use personal accounts on this issue.

To determine if Water-Boarding is torture, I present two things to ponder.

1: The history of Water-boarding
During World War II, Japanese troops, especially the Kempeitai, as well as the Gestapo, the German secret police, used waterboarding as a method of torture. During the Japanese occupation of Singapore the Double Tenth Incident occurred, which included waterboarding consisting of binding or holding down the victim on his back, placing a cloth over his mouth and nose, and pouring water onto the cloth. In this version, interrogation continued during the torture, with the interrogators beating the victim if he did not reply and the victim swallowing water if he opened his mouth to answer or breathe. When the victim could ingest no more w

Water boarding for interrogation is Constitutional

(Voting Period) Hello

First off let me say that this debate will only be about if water boarding for interrogation is Constitutional, not weather its right.

Water boarding for interrogation is Constitutional, because there is nothing in the Constitution that says anything about interrogation. Its says- "Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."(http://www.whitehouse.gov/kids/constitution/billofrights.html)

THis is the only part that says something remotely close to water boarding or interrogation. First, water boarding isn't cruel or unusual. We aren't going to let the prisoners die, because we want the information that they know. Water boarding will not let them die.

Second, it isn't a punishment. Punishment is 1. the act of punishing.
2. the fact of being punished, as for an offense or fault.
3. a penalty inflicted for an offense, fault, etc.
4. severe handling or trea

Water Boarding is Terrorism.

(Voting Period) redbrave70 has challenged my intellectual level. Since he supports water boarding, but is in favor of the war on terrorism, I would like to hear how water boarding is NOT terrorism.

Terrorism - the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.

Water Boarding is an act of torture and is immoral.

(Voting Period) I affirm the resolution : Water Boarding is an act of torture and is immoral.

I consider myself an open minded person yet I am always shocked when glancing at people's profiles on this site when I see people saying they are pro-water boarding. This is especially true if their other opinions do not seem particularly extreme.

I would appreciate if somebody who is pro-water boarding would like to take me up on this debate. If nobody does so, I will be forced to conclude that most of these individuals think that torture is a good thing. I hope I am proved wrong.

Thankyou.

Water Boarding

(Voting Period) What if we knew someone had information about a possible terrorist attack... but we couldn't get it out of them? What if we had been able to STOP 9/11 before it happened? What if we were able to save hundreds of lives by merely causing a single human being extreme discomfort and even maybe anguish? Who are we to say that the mistreating of a few people is wrong, even if it saves many? Search inside yourself, and think, if I could either be tortured against my will or save even a few lives of mothers, fathers and children, would you? So what is the torture if one person against the lives of hundreds???
