School kills creativity

(Voting Period) Students think that once they come to school that all their creative juices have to stop working, but that doe not need to be the case. They can express the creativity in different ways, such as a creative writing class or a group project where everyone in the group can put their own spin on the topic. There are also other outlets to express creativity, the person just needs to find a way to let their creative juices flowing. If you enjoy playing instruments then join band, and if you enjoy singing then join chorus. You do not need to put your creativity on hold just because you are in school for a couple of hours during the day.

Should Chewing Gum Be Allowed in School?

(Debating Period) I think chewing gum should be allowed in school for many reasons. First of all, lots of students have bad breath. In my opinion, it is better to smell minty gum breath than nasty breath, so this is a very good reason. Second of all, it helps your health. 72% of gum users are taller than average. For example, my friend chewed gum every day in his 2nd period class and now he is 6 feet 2 inches. Imagine how short he would be if he never chewed gum. This is a fact because my doctor explained it to me. Well, actually my eye doctor explained it to me, but he counts because he is still a doctor, and he can probably see better than anyone I know because he is an eye doctor. Finally, chewing gum helps you remember things better. I put a piece of strawberry gym in my mouth, and I remembered all of the countries and capitals of Europe for my test. In countries where they allow gum chewing in schools, the graduation rate is 99%. That is 7% higher than the graduation rate i

Is College Worth It?

(Voting Period) Is college worth it? Is it worth paying big money to an institution for higher learning or is it overrated?

Rules:
-First round acceptance (feel free to make your points first round if you want)
-No new arguments in the last round
-Keep it clean

To make both sides clear, I will be arguing that college is worth it and my opponent will be arguing that it isn't. I wish you good luck and have fun with it.

Schools offer only uncomfortable seating.

(Post Voting Period) Solid, rounded plastic is not comfortable

After about 4 hours of school, my back begins to ache.

The supporting metal beams sit at a temperatures lower than that of liquid nitrogen and are completely shocking to touch.

I dislike school desks.

Philosophy and the humanities are underrated in education.

(Post Voting Period)
I would like to thank my esteemed opponent in advance for accepting this debate. I look forward to what I hope will be a very thought provoking and insightful discussion :)

For all intents and purposes, I believe the resolution is pretty straight-forward. By underrated, I will be arguing that increasing the focus in humanities and/or philosophy in education, particularly higher education, would be beneficial to society. I will contend that there is an increasing problematic trend in delegitimizing the pursuit of knowledge in these areas, while there is instead a particular emphasis on specializing in particular fields of expertise. Often, the value of these genres is underrated in comparison to other subject matter such as those that are technological in nature.

I again thank my opponent for accepting this challenge. I stand in firm affirmation of the resolution, and I am much looking forward to posting my opening argument

Anime studies should be offered in American high schools

(Post Voting Period)
Anime is an art form akin to novels or movies. The definition of anime is sometimes controversial among fans of the art form who worry if Korean or American work is really anime. For the purpose of this debate, the definition is:

anime: a colorful style of animated feature produced in Japan and reflecting themes that include traditional Japanese values or conflicts, often in a science fiction or fantasy setting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anime)

This debate is not about Pokémon or Card Capture Sakura or Dragonball Z, or others in that genre. I don't have a problem with that type of anime and there are things in that genre worth studying, but it's not prime turf. Just as "literature studies" technically ought to include romance novels, it's not the prime focus. I will

Teachers' salaries should be based on their students' academic performance.

(Post Voting Period) 'Matha Pitha Guru Deivam' is a famous saying in Sanskrit which means 'Mother Father Teacher God'. This saying really portraits quality of a teacher. Here teacher is a person who is kept before god and he should be respected as like as a god. Still in India there are government schools where we can see teachers who are altruistic and dedicate them only for the students and there are teachers who works only for salary. How can teachers from the two category is treated equally and given with same salary? Real achievement for a teacher comes when his student achieves. A teacher who is assiduous will some how make his students achieve and try to improve his student's performance. So there should be a person who should note the achievements, academic performance of his students and should award the teachers with the ' PROPORTIONAL SALARY'

Schools should have after-school/extracurricular clubs and activities.

(Post Voting Period) Schools should have after-school clubs and activities. These are not things you remove when schools have budget cuts. These may not seem important to education, but they actually are.

Schools have a variety of after-school clubs for students to go to. This allows the students to choose which clubs they wish to attend, so they can choose clubs that they are interested in. Although lots of schools have after-school clubs like basketball, or football, which don't help you academically, they help you stay fit, considering the United States has a high percent of overweight or obese students.

There are also clubs which help you academically. For example, there could be a history club, or an astronomy club, which you can attend if you are unfamiliar with a topic. You can then learn more about that topic.

advanced school programs should be kept and expanded

(Post Voting Period) I believe that advanced and exhilarated school programs should be kept and expanded. We should strengthen our enrichment programs for highly capable children. If we open the programs to anyone, then it could be a non-exclusive class. I understand that by being able to enter the program be by a high test score, people feel that it is an unfair chance. However, the work that is in a highly capable class may be harder for some students who were not able to pass the test.
