They currently allow 13.7 ppg on defense which puts them as the 2nd best defense in the NFL and if you take away the last game against baltimore they average 11 ppg which would put them number1 There turnover differential is +6 (5th in the NFL) On Defense they have only given up 1867 yards which makes them the number 1 ranked defense in the NFL. Looking at there remaining schedule I can guarantee at least 5 more wins which would put them at an 11 win season I will now hand it over to my opponent http://www.debate.org/debates/The-Denver-Broncos-will-win-the-Super-Bowl-this-year/1/comments/ 2009-11-06T09:49:48-08:00 world series http://www.debate.org/debates/world-series/1/ (Debating Period) I believe that the Yankees will win the world series for 3 reasons 1 they have already woman 1 more game than the phillies 2: they have better players 3: they just are al around better http://www.debate.org/debates/world-series/1/comments/ 2009-11-04T16:38:24-08:00 Lyoto Machida has an advantage over Mauricio shogun. http://www.debate.org/debates/Lyoto-Machida-has-an-advantage-over-Mauricio-shogun./1/ (Voting Period) Please dont accept yet, i have to post my argument. I d agree that they have amazing talents and that they deserve to get paid for these talents but why so much? http://www.progressiveu.org/160611-why-are-athletes-getting-paid-so-much-there-are-starving-kids-out-there I plan on hitting a few key points, |DEBT| America is in a 11 trillion dollar debt at the current moment, according to http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/. When the salary cap for the upcoming NFL season is $102.5 million per team, and we currently have 32 teams, we are paying 3.28 billion to teams to spend half on players and equipment and the other half on their 50 million dollar houses and their 4 million dollar cars. Anyone could easily live a year with 150,000 dollars, so when we could spend 50 million dollars less on the NFL, then we could save 1 billion dollars a year. This could cut our rising daily debt down to 2 billion rising daily. we could quic http://www.debate.org/debates/Should-athletes-get-paid-millions-a-year/1/comments/ 2009-09-28T20:34:58-08:00 Dogs Pinch Running in Baseball. http://www.debate.org/debates/Dogs-Pinch-Running-in-Baseball./1/ (Post Voting Period) It's about time we all got over ourselves and allow canines to suit up for MLB games; dogs ought to be allowed to pinch run for a human player. As long as he/she is vaccinated, domesticated, and willing to participate, it would add an entire new element to the game that is unprecedented in professional sports. We aren't just a human race -- but an entire population of organisms living together in unison; allowing animals to compete in MLB games may finally bring that fact to light. They couldn't bat, pitch, or play defense, but they would compensate for it on the bases, where they can run significantly faster than your quickest human player. The chess match between managers would be entertainment at it's finest. Picture a late inning scenario in which one manager has a Persian Greyhound on the bench eagerly awaiting the opportunity to swipe second, third, and possibly home, while the opposing manager is weighing his options of pitching to the #4 hole http://www.debate.org/debates/Dogs-Pinch-Running-in-Baseball./1/comments/ 2009-06-05T19:50:36-08:00 Kobe Bryant is the best active basketball player and second best in all of NBA. http://www.debate.org/debates/Kobe-Bryant-is-the-best-active-basketball-player-and-second-best-in-all-of-NBA./1/ (Voting Period) Currently in the NBA, Kobe Bryant is the best player. No one can match up to him in skill and basketball IQ. The only player better than Kobe overall is Michael Jordan. But, in a few years, once Kobe wins more championships and doesn't get snubbed from winning the MVP (Kobe averages 35.4 pts but NASh wins MVP). Kobe can truly be called the best NBA player ever. Also, if any one wants any proof or stats, I will be more than ready to present the stats to them. http://www.debate.org/debates/Kobe-Bryant-is-the-best-active-basketball-player-and-second-best-in-all-of-NBA./1/comments/ 2009-07-27T19:35:17-08:00 The Houston Astros benefit their fans by not allowing outside food/drink in their ballpark. http://www.debate.org/debates/The-Houston-Astros-benefit-their-fans-by-not-allowing-outside-food-drink-in-their-ballpark./1/ (Post Voting Period) I'll Allow My Challenger to go first http://www.debate.org/debates/The-Houston-Astros-benefit-their-fans-by-not-allowing-outside-food-drink-in-their-ballpark./1/comments/ 2009-06-19T04:46:00-08:00 Roger Federer is the greatest tennis player ever. http://www.debate.org/debates/Roger-Federer-is-the-greatest-tennis-player-ever./1/ (Voting Period) With Federer's recent French Open Championship, he ties Sampras with 14 major titles (the most all time). Greatness is determined by the abiality to for a play to win, and win big. Tied for the most grand Slam titles, Federer has also complete the career grand slam (winning the Australian, French, Us Open's and Wimbledon). Federer also holds the record for most consecutive Grand slam finals. Federer also has the most concecutive weeks ranked at number one, as well as 4th on the all time list. Federer is 8th on the all time list in tournment titles (7 behind Sampras which he should easily catch befor retiring). And on top of all these historical all time records: He's still playing, oh and guess what. Look at any sport, where do computers and peoples opinions play any factor in who wins a championship? The best team is decided on the field, and through a play-off. Look at the MLB, MLL, MLS, NBA, and NHL they all have play-off systems. The NHL, MLB, and NBA all even have play-off systems for their minor leagues teams (NFL, MLL, and MLS don't have minor leagues). Each sports uses their own system, but they all work and at the end no one can doubt that the team that survived the test of the play-offs is not truly the Champion. The BCS has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, because for all the hype and prestige that college football gets: The championship is rigged. When the Magic where facing the Cav's in the Eastern Confrence Finals, everyone wanted to see Kobe/Lebron, Stan Van Gundy (The Magic Coach) angerly replied to reporters on the question of everyone wanting to see those 2 in the finals, "This isn't the BCS where http://www.debate.org/debates/Division-I-College-Football-Should-Implement-a-Play-off-System/1/comments/ 2009-06-07T16:13:31-08:00 Statistics, Performance Enhancing Drugs, and Major League Baseball–II. http://www.debate.org/debates/Statistics-Performance-Enhancing-Drugs-and-Major-League-Baseball-II./1/ (Post Voting Period) Abbreviations: MLB–Major League Baseball. PED–Performance Enhancing Drug(s). Definitions: Performance Enhancing Drug(s)–substances used by athletes with the intent to improve their performances in the sports in which they engage. [1] With baseball, this usually refers mainly to anabolic steroids. [2] Thus, in this debate, "steroids" and "PEDs" will be used interchangeably. Hopefully, my opponent does not have a problem with this. Resolution: The statistics of those Major League Baseball players who, in the late 1990s through 2004, otherwise considered the height of the "Steroid Era" by MLB fans, were known users of PEDs or who were almost certainly using PEDs, should still be held as legitimate in assessing those players' talent relative to other MLB players. A bit of an introduction: As anyone who has any interest in MLB may know, artificial performance enhancement through PEDs has become a huge issue in the last decade or so, mainly because of http://www.debate.org/debates/Statistics-Performance-Enhancing-Drugs-and-Major-League-Baseball-II./1/comments/ 2009-07-06T15:49:27-08:00 Jimmy Rollins deserved Major League Baseball's 2007 NL MVP award. http://www.debate.org/debates/Jimmy-Rollins-deserved-Major-League-Baseballs-2007-NL-MVP-award./1/ (Post Voting Period) I believe that Jimmy Rollins did not deserve the NL MVP award in 2007. I enjoy watching and playing sports, but I'd sooner turn on CNN. However, there is one issue that I feel can't be ignored. That is the issue of team names. And, a little disclaimer, I am a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, but that will not change my argument for the worse. I'm going to start out with some background in my area of more expertise, then I will come back to how that is relevant today. Andrew Johnson succeeded President Lincoln after he was tragically murdered. Johnson objected to Lincoln's freeing of the slaves. However, it was too far done for Johnson to do it (thank goodness). So instead, he took the nation backwards and instated the Jim Crow laws, what we now know as segregation, that we had to wait for another Johnson to undo. We now look back at A. Johnson as the second worst president in American history, according to a recent C-Span poll (Buchanan being worst). As you may be aware, it's the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend (1). Most people will be looking forward to watching the race yet there was programme on BBC radio yesterday entitled "What's the point in Formula One" (2). During this appalling broadcast, assorted contributors variously described the sport as "boring", "noisy" and "damaging to the environment". True, F1 may be loud (that's part of its appeal) and it may be environmentally unfriendly (although fuel-saving technologies such as the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) do filter down to road cars in time). But whatever F1 is though, it certainly is not "boring"! F1 is not "just cars going round and round" as some people who don't appreciate the sport claim. Reasons: 1.) He had 22 wins and only 3 losses, the best record in the majors by far. The next closest pitcher in the American League was Mike Mussina at 20 wins 9 losses. He started every single one of his 31 games throwing 170 strikeouts in 223.1 innings. His 2.54 ERA was also the best in the MLB. 2.) He was the anchor of the Indians all year even after the loss of C.C Sabathia (The Indians Cy Young Winner of 2007) who went on the go 9 wins 0 losses with the Brewers after the trade. Without Lee the Indians would not have gone 81-81 and ended up ending a pitiful season on somewhat of a good note. Same Random Facts Lee didnt lose his first game until May 18th against the Reds. He lost his second game on July 6th against the Twins. His amazing performance Catapulted the Indians out of last place and Eventually into 3rd. http://www.debate.org/debates/Should-Cliff-Lee-be-the-Cy-Young-winner/1/comments/ 2008-10-11T10:38:19-08:00 The Boston Celtics would have at least beat the Orlando Magic if they had Kevin Garnett http://www.debate.org/debates/The-Boston-Celtics-would-have-at-least-beat-the-Orlando-Magic-if-they-had-Kevin-Garnett/1/ (Post Voting Period) The Celtics would have beat the Magic if they had KG. However, the stalemate had to be broken one way or another but I contend that a fairer and more entertaining method of deciding the winning team would have been for the players to have a massive great brawl in the middle of the pitch. On that occasion, all the England players would have been queuing up to give Portugal's dirty, cheating, pretty-boy midfielder Christiano Ronaldo a proper kicking and http://www.debate.org/debates/International-soccer-matches-should-be-settled-by-fights-not-penalties./1/comments/ 2008-09-12T15:02:08-08:00 Statistics, Performance Enhancing Drugs, and Major League Baseball. http://www.debate.org/debates/Statistics-Performance-Enhancing-Drugs-and-Major-League-Baseball./1/ (Post Voting Period) Abbreviations: MLB–Major League Baseball. The definition of the olympic spirt can be broadly interpreted, so ill use this website as a baseline for what I interpret the olympic spirit to be. http://www.olympicspirit.org/mission.php eg. unifying the world through competetive athletecisim, in which the athletes observe the ideals of fairplay and sportsmanship. I think that modern day olympics has evolved to become an event which wears these ideals as a badge while having alterior motives behind, therefore the olympic spirit has died.
