Existence Necessitates Purpose

JustCallMeTarzan
sadolite

The proposition on offer is that nothing inherent to mere existence necessitates purpose in that existence. Purpose has the following definitions (Dictionary.com): 1. the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc. 2. an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal. 3. determination; resoluteness. 4. the subject in hand; the point at issue. 5. practical result, effect, or advantage: to act to good purpose. Obviously they are all mostly pertinent, and thus, I wou...

Civil Unions should be legal in the United States

cto09

I would first like to say good luck to my opponent (who ever he or she may be) I understand that gay marriage is a highly charged issue in the United States, and I would like to first point out that I am not in favor of gay marriage. I believe that marriage is a religious institution and the government should not be able to tell churches what they can and cannot do within the church. However, I also understand that I am not the whole country and I do not represent everyone. I believe, tha...

The Following Arguments for the Existence of God are Valid - 1C

TheSkeptic
DiablosChaosBroker

Note: the "1C" notation in the Topic title is simply for searching purposes. [Definition - Existence] http://dictionary.reference.com...... 1. the state or fact of existing; being. *NOTE* I am not debating whether or not a God exists in one's MIND, but rather in REALITY. [Definition - Valid] http://dictionary.reference.com...... 1. sound; just; well-founded 2. Logic. (of an argument) so constructed that if the premises are jointly asserted, the conclusion cannot be denied without c...

The odds are, most of us have backed the wrong horse!

brian_eggleston

Around four fifths of the world's population self-identify themselves as religious. About a third are Christian, a fifth are Muslims and another fifth follow South Asian beliefs. The rest are either non-believers or followers of minor religions. (1) So if there is an afterlife, who will be the ones that have backed the right horse and who will be the ones tearing up their ecumenical betting slips? Could it be that one day the Pope knocks on the gates of paradise and has the following conve...

If you are certain that there is a god, then I am certain that you are delusional.

shawnburton

The gods I am referring to, are those that are mentioned in the organized religions around the world. I would like to focus on Yahweh, the god of the Old Testament. Many creations are certain that their god exists. If you claim to be certain of this, then I am certain that you are delusional. I would like to debate a contender that claims that the existence of god of the Old Testament is a certainty. My contender can start the debate....

It ought to be illegal to require students to work past 10:00 (pm) on a school night.

Johnicle

My least favorite place in the existence of all lively hood without a doubt is the scum that is Kmart... You see, this is where I work on a weekly basis, and I HATE IT! There are several reasons for this, and one of those reasons is their clever system of scheduling. For example, next Tuesday I work from 6:00 p.m. - 12:15 a.m. This would be the week of semester tests by the way. Speaking of which, I work from 7:00 p.m. - 12:15 a.m. the night before semester tests. I think that this is ridiculous...

The existence of God

DiablosChaosBroker

I affirm that God exists. "The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate Designer who not only created our universe, but sustains it today."(1) The Earth...its size is perfect. The size of the Earth and its corresponding gravity holds an atmosphere of mostly nitrogen and oxygen gases, only extending to about 50 miles of Earth's surface. "It is at a perfect distance from the Sun; not too hot, not too cold."(2) It has the perfect gravity without the difficulty of heavy gravity and lo...

Walmart Stampede

sadolite
askbob

I believe that every effort should be made using video surveillance to identify as many of the people involved in the ridiculous stampede and tragic death of that Walmart worker in Long Island. Walmart will of course be sued and held liable while all those responsible will walk away scott free with their peace of crap 25 dollar CD player and suffer no consequences for their actions. These people need to pay the family of this dead worker for their loss and they also need to be charged with mansl...

A Canadian-style National Healthcare system would be a good thing for the United States to have.

wjmelements

Life is perhaps the most important thing in society. good- of a favorable character or tendency http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/good In order to be voted for, I must prove that a Canadian-style Universal Healthcare system would not be good for the United States. To be polite to my friend, a new member, I will let her present her points first....
