Objective moral facts do not exist

An objective moral fact will be defined as a moral truth, which is independent of any human experience or perception. The fact that there are no moral truths if proved would not itself count as a moral truth (I only include this as it seems like an obvious semantic option). Moral truths regard what is right or wrong, moral or immoral, and will not have to do with whether or not such things exist.
Most likely will be defined as having a hig...
Bob Marley Vs The Beatles

For this debate I will be arguing that Bob Marley was a superior musician to the Beatles and his impact on the world was much greater. My opponent will argue the Beatles had a greater impact on music and on the world in general. Note that one cannot argue any of the member of the Beatles solo careers or their work after the Beatles. Round 1 is for acceptance only. Round 2 we will both make are arguments, there will be no rebuttals at this point. Round 3 we are free to rebut the opponents main...
Should conscription be introduced into Australia

This first round will be for stating arguments and other generalised actions. No elaborations on arguments past summarising sentences or rebuttals. "Should conscription be introduced into Australia" The definitions of the terms is as follows: Conscription - Compulsory enlistment for state service, typically into the military. [1] I am not arguing that we should start conscripting now, however that a law should be passed legalising it, and therefore becoming effective whenever the governmen...

The FCC should substantially increase its investment in the National Broadcast plan

Broadband is decreasing now, claimed to help the economy bla bla bla, (Vikki S. Katz, Matthew D. Matsaganis, and Sandra J. ball-Rokeach, Ph.D., University of Southern California, ETHNIC MEDIA AS PARTNERS FOR INCREASING BROADBAND ADOPTION AND SOCIAL INCLUSION, Published 2012. PDF pg. 79-102.) but it means that minoritys which depend on cheap public broadband will not be able to send their radio and TV news at all. But it also means that because most people get their news from public TV and radio...
The bible (OT + NT) is a horrific piece of work and should not be used as moral guidance

a) For the following debate, the New King James Version is to be used. b) No holds barred, nothing off limits. c) Please look to this flowchart to see how a religious debate, or any debate, should operate: http://blog.case.edu/singham/2011/07/28/debate-flow-chart.jpg It is of my opinion that the Judeo-Christian bible is a horrific piece of work, which glorifies the subjugation of women and children, people that are not heterosexual and people of other religions/people without a religion: 1...
a progressive tax system should be used

I believe a progressive tax system should be used. the richer you are the more you are taxed. i'm not wed to a certain number, just that it should be progressive. the richer should be taxed more because they use more resources, and are primarily responsible for those who "don't have" for not having. the rich should may a certain amout more because: first becaus tehy take more resources from society... it's like society says "you take this apple this tree etc you pay X percent". also, the r...
The argument from morality is not a valid argument for the existence of (a) god(s)

The first round is for acceptance, but my opponent may post arguments if they so wish.
Resolved: Obama should be re-elected

Resolved: President Obama should be re-elected for a seond term.
Note that I don't support everything Obama has done, but he has done a very good job for his first term (much better than Bush!) and I believe that he should be re-elected.
Structure
1. Acceptance
2. Opening arguments
3. Rebuttals
4. Rebuttals/closing

Mind-body dualism is false

The Pro side of this debate will be tasked with bringing a case in support of the resolution, namely that mind-body dualism is indeed false. Con's burden of proof will be to deconstruct Pro's case and show that mind-body dualism is true, or that it stands up to Pro's criticisms. The actual scope of the topic up for debate is whether or not the philosophy of mind-body dualism is a rationally justified theory of mind.
