Resolved: That Scott Walker's recent budget bill is a wonderful, much needed idea

JrRepublican

My opponent will argue that Scott Walker's budget bill forcing public worker unions to contribute to their pensions and health care and removing some collective bargaining right is a bad idea. Good luck! My argument is that the unions have attained too much power and they need to accept concessions, not carp about them in the state capital. And yes, the unions have ruined our industries with their unreasonable demands and their closed-shop mentality that hurts workers. The unions are the four-ha...

Torture is sometimes morally permissible.

Freeman
tribefan011

Torture can be morally justified in rare circumstances. In the case of a ticking time bomb that could destroy a city and potentially kill millions of people the use of coerced interrogation to extract information can be justified. I am not arguing that torture should be made legal. Torture, like theft, could be ethical under certain parameters and still be against the law. Nor am I arguing that a general practice of torture can be made from the scenario I outlined above. What I wish to argue is...

Affirmative Action

Bipartisan-Monkey
tribefan011

I will Prove that Affirmative Action is more harmful than helpful. Affirmative Action is in itself causing more division between races instead of bringing them together. Originally Affirmative Action was created to help minorities level the playing field with white Americans. For instance lets imagine that i am a white man. Which is true. Lets imagine I apply to CAL Tech. Now to get in to CAL Tech you have to get A's from the 3rd grade. Lets say that i had done this also i had gotten perfect...

Pro-Minority Affirmative Action

Affirmative action - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirmative_action "The terms affirmative action and positive action refer to policies that take race ... into consideration in an attempt to promote equal opportunity or increase ethnic diversity." This does not include jobs in which a certain race is obviously preferable, such as casting for the role of George Lopez's son for the TV show "George Lopez." A Latino actor would obviously be preferable, and was therefore chosen. Let the debat...

Cap-and-Trade Will Bring Upon the Ruin of the USA

youngpolitic
tribefan011

Cap-and-Trade is a Bill that has sadly made it through the House of Representatives. It is a bill that has been created to "combat global warming" and to "lower the dangerous levels of CO2 in the air". To do this Cap-and-Trade will set up a hugely bureaucratic system that would assign tax credits to a certain amount of CO2 emmisions. Say a factory is producing 50 tons of CO2 a day (this is just a made up scenario based on no actual figures) Cap-and-Trade would say that this company has to pay 25...

Empathy should have no role in judging appeals

RoyLatham
tribefan011

Empathy is "the intellectual identification of the thoughts, feelings, or state of another person." http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/empathy or, similarly, "Identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings, and motives. See synonyms at pity." http://www.answers.com/topic/empathy For this debate, "judging" is taken in the legal sense of performing the duties of a judge. A judge is "A public official who hears and decides cases brought before a court of law. ... A judge is on...

Affirmative Action

mongeese
tribefan011

Affirmative Action - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirmative_action I am against affirmative action. With every positive benefit of affirmative action, there is an equal and opposite negative effect. With every other negative effect of affirmative action, there is no positive benefit. People argue that it gives minorities more opportunities. It equally robs majorities of their opportunities. It also places restrictions on employers, which decreases their ability to make a prof...

The pro-life argument IS NOT supported by the Bible.

tribefan011
aquajet16

First off, I'll start off with the term "pro-life." Although that's what they want it to mean, it's not truly what it means. There is no consensus scientific or biological definition of when life starts. However, the Fourteenth Amendment seems to offer the view that one is not alive until born. Therefore, one isn't granted the same rights as a United States citizen. I will anticipate your counterpoint to that. You will likely look at the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. But that is a very sparing...
