The Christian day of worship and rest should be the seventh-day, not Sunday as is common.

Farooq

So far on debate.org I have kept to debating politics and an assortment of other issues, but have continually kept away from issues of Faith, despite the importance it plays in my life. I've seen a lot of broad philosophical views of religion- usually a direct a shallow confrontation between Deists, Christians and Atheists. But for the purpose of this debate, I would like to instead debate a fellow Christian of any denomination in a particular point of doctrine. Please keep in mind that for the...

Soccer is the Greatest Sport

08tsuchiyar
Rousseau

For the sake of clarity NFL Football=Football and FIFA football= Soccer. I will begin my positive arguments now.... The sheer popularity is the primary reason it is the greatest. It is played in every country and watched in every country. Football does not even come close to the same popularity. It is played and watched by all, rich or poor, young or old, Asian, Latino, white or African--It is truly played by everyone. The simple iconic nature of soccer is amazing too. The pro player...

Should affirmative action policies be eliminated?

USMCgal625
Rousseau

Affirmative action generally means giving preferential treatment to minorities in admission to universities or employment in government & businesses. The policies were originally developed to correct decades of discrimination and to give disadvantaged minorities a boost. The diversity of our current society as opposed to that of 50 years ago seem to indicate the programs have been a success. But now, many think the policies are no longer needed and that they lead to more problems than they solve...

The United States Is a Faltering Nation. It Is On The Decline

Rousseau

Well, I'd be more than happy to get further in depth after my opponent brings up his points, but here are mine: The United States is on the decline. This is because of several reasons. 1. Lack of serious global competition, power-wise. 2. Severe Lack of Soft Power, and Hard Power that may be faltering 3. Enemies that are transboundary and practically invisible 4. Dependence on Foreign Oil and Oil in general 5. Economic stagnation 6. Policing policy failing 7. Lack of a strong candidate...

Benazir Bhutto Was Most Likely Killed by Pervez Musharraf

Rousseau

I believe that to get to the meat of the debate, I'll have to wait for a challenger, but basically Musharraf has the most to gain from the death of Bhutto, and had the most to lose from her becoming elected as the President. Not only that, but Musharraf had the means to do it. He was closely connected with the head of the military (who he hand-picked as his successor). This means he is the most likely to have orchestrated her death. I also ask, if not Musharraf.. than who? Militant rebels? They...

Derek Jeter is overrated

Pluto2493
Rousseau

Derek Jeter is one of the most, if not the most, overrated player in baseball. 1. HE HAS NO STATS. He never hits homeruns. His highest ever in his 13 seasons was 24, and constantly gets around 15 a year. The last two years he has gotten 14 and 12. He also never gets RBIs. Last year he got around 73, despite playing 156 games. RBIs really are the most important thing, because thats what makes a team score. He constantly gets around 114 Ks a year, with his highest being 125 in 1997. He is most...

How can Libertarian be in favor of National Healthcare?

SirJDKnightCroix

I'm straight out confuzzled. Why would a Libertarian be pro-national health care? It's against the economic principles of limited gov't and a free market....

Conservatives should vote for Ron Paul, and NOT Fred Thompson

clsmooth

Here are my reasons: 1. Ron Paul is pro-life. As an OBGYN for decades, Dr. Paul delivered more than 4,000 babies and never considered performing an abortion. As any true conservative should, Dr. Paul believes that the federal government has no legitimate jurisdiction over the issue of abortion, including a national ban on the practice, and thinks that the states should decide. And, unlike his Republican rivals, he stands behind this belief with proposed legislation that would strip the issue...

Affirmative Action is Bad

policydebategod
Rousseau

- Affirmative action leads to reverse discrimination. - Affirmative action lowers standards of accountability needed to push students or employees to perform better. - Students admitted on this basis are often ill-equipped to handle the schools to which they've been admitted. - It would help lead a truly color-blind society. - It is condescending to minorities to say they need affirmative action to succeed. - It demeans true minority achievement; i.e. success is labeled as result of af...
