Any form of physical discipline in my honest opinion is a failure to discipline and teach children the right way. If a child can't understand how what he/she did was wrong, violence isn't going to teach them anything. Yes, sure it may make them behave better but only out of fear which fear is not a good teacher at least in cases like this.
