The meaning of life for all individuals is NOT equal.

"- I wish we had more of a chance to delve into this philosophically, because I argue that the life of someone doing "good" for society has just as much MEANING as that of a person in solitary for their whole life. But perhaps another time :)" http://www.debate.org/debate/7912/ Alright, I figure that it is time that we debate this subject. I am of the opinion that the meaning and significance of one's life is constantly changing, and that it is not equal for all humans on Earth. A man...

Resolve: People should be allowed to chew gum with braces

rad218

Kids should be aloud to chew gum with braces because kids need to have some portale sugar in their life. If kids can't chew gum while having braces , where will the gum economy be? Gum sales could go down in the process because many kids teeth are messed up and they have to where braces for a long time. This is not fair to gum company owners....

True Altruism can exist.

Aziar44
diety

My argument is that true altruism can indeed exist. By true altruism, I mean doing good acts without any selfish motivation whatsoever. This is the opposite of egoism and different from reciprocal altruism, which says that people may do good acts in order to get good acts done for them in the future. I argue that true altruism is possible. A good act without an ounce of selfish motivation is quite possible. A good act can be defined as an act that is beneficial to someone other than onesel...

Vote bombing is an abuse of the voting system on Debate.org.

mongeese

I affirm the above resolution. This first round will be for definitions and facts only; no conclusions or arguments. Vote bombing - An action taken by members of Debate.org who make their votes on debates based off of information not pertinent to the debate at hand. Also, "when a user (often times with multiple accounts) maliciously votes down all seven points to all of a rival's open debates." http://debatefans.com/articles/thedebateorgdictionary.html Abuse - improper or excessive us...

Catholicism is more morally admirable than Protestantism

Aziar44
beem0r

I will argue here that Catholicism is more morally admirable than Protestantism, as a whole. In the tenets in which the two differ, Catholicism is more admirable. It is more consistent in its stances, preaches better morals, and its principles have more positive ramifications than those of Protestantism. I will go into more detail in the next rounds. My opponent must debate that Protestantism is more morally admirable than Catholicism. Thank you to whomever accepts this challenge....

Che Guevara isnt a good guy.

Kratos

Film makers have been erecting a romantic image of Che Guevara from the days of his youth, as in Walter Salles's film 'The Motorcycle Diaries," or his final days in Bolivia in Steven Soderbergh's " Che Guevara." It is important to highlight Guevara's actual message, actions, and legacy. Both films are a revisionist white wash that ignore both the atrocities committed, his hate filled writings, and their aftermath not only in Cuba but in the Americas. The image of Che Guevara hanging in the Colle...

Evolution should not be taught as a fact in American public schools.

mongeese

Okay, I think that Darwin's Theory of Evolution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_Evolution) should not be taught as absolute, factual science in American public schools. To start with, because no reason has been given as to why it should be taught, I will say that when you have no reason to teach something in a public school, it should not be taught....

Christianity has been more beneficial than detrimental to mankind.

wpfairbanks

Well, this will be the second challenge for this debate, as my first opponenet failed to post a first argument, unfortunately. Oh well. Anyway, here I would like to argue exactly what it says in the title: Christianity has overall been more of a benefit to mankind than it has been a detriment. No partisan arguments may be used here, e.g. abortion, gay marriage, etc. Those are partisan issues that require their own debate. In this debate, I would ask my opponent to stick to concrete exa...

Life is meaningless without God.

Aziar44
SuperPerfundo

My stance is that life is not meaningless without God. Meaning can be found in life even if some deity does not exist. I will expand further in the next rounds as to how, but I wish to give a definition of God first. Any deity can be used in this argument if it follows these basic tenets: 1. The god is supernatural. 2. The god had to do with the creation of life/the universe/mankind in some way. 3. The god is some being (or beings - having multiple deities for this argument is perfectly...
