Dalt raised a gun and fired. Some marshmallows plopped out.

Marshmallows.

Is there a reason that there wasn't confetti Dalton?
Yeah, townies fire confetti guns and mafia fire marshmallow guns. It is known.

(no, lol, I have no idea)

Then that's a good thing, thank you for putting the effort in to change it.

I don't understand people's perceived need to boot you as a mod from the series at all, so I even less so agree with the sentiment that you need to leave before you'd personally like to. You have modded the series very well, so don't let that get to you.

I don't think anyone has argued that bsh1 needs to go besides himself so I don't know where this is coming from.

Many people did propose a rotating mod system where more people get a chance to mod and no one has argued that bsh1 shouldn't be one of those mods.
Is the rotating mod system really so important to the problem that we have to force bsh out of modding the series just a few games before he'd like to leave, perhaps even permanently? I don't think the problem has anything to do with who is modding the beginner's series. It's the nature of what the series in and of itself.

I don't disagree with what you are saying, though, I just don't understand the sense of urgency.

I can agree with the idea that learning about balance and the finer points player behaviour are necessarily more important than role exposure. A player who has a firm understanding of the former can usually much more easily begin to understand the latter in extension.

I don't think bsh should feel offended by the implication that the Beginner's Series requires change, and I would disagree with the sentiment that asking for change is necessarily an attack on his character or on anyone else. All I can see that has been changed with the beginner's series at this point, though, is the insertion of advisers, and given the core of the problem, I'm not sure that is especially helpful.

The burnout rate due to the length of the series, which saves the most educationally important games for last; the lack of experienced ringers to work with noobs that creates a situation wherein players like Lannan contextually become ringers; a focus on role exposure over setup balance and mod/player psych; a lack of variety that provides incentive for activity; these are the problems with the series.

Saph said that all advisors really functionally do is answer questions about roles and mechanics, which makes sense, because (let's be honest) expecting advisors to take specified investment in individual beginner games beyond that is sort of unreasonable. If you really think there are people so committed on the site, more people like bsh, who would be capable of reading and comprehensively understanding each beginner's game so well that they can answer specific questions, then I would support that, but realistically I don't know if the idea will be effective.

I think bsh is a terrific mod, though, but I also don't see the harm in quickly implementing reforms in accordance with the needs and wants of the community, and aside from the arguments about maintaining a point of contact, I don't think changing the mechanics of the series will create any real inconsistency or confusion. Both the old beginners series and the new revolve around the same central, fundamental basis for mafia. Really, the only difference is in the nature of the setups themselves - the setups are oriented towards incentivizing different methods of playing the game. FT's method is really just simply better than one that relies on role analysis and role exposure. I generally agree with the core of his ideas and posts.

I think bsh is working towards deviating from that reliance on roles and exposure, though, and that's probably where some of the posters in this thread fail to give him due credit because of their personal desires to see him out and themselves in, and managing the beginners series.

I like the proposed two-game idea and would support its implementation whenever bsh is ready personally to bring it in.. beyond that, ideas like revolving mods and community panels could be explored, but imo that is less associated with the core of the problem itself.

It seems dangerously shameful to let this gun go to waste.

I am very suspicious of VoT's "I forgot that I was town in my PM, but noticed when I went back to fire my gun" statement.

Affiliation is not so unmemorable and not so uncorrelated to role that you usually forget something like that. He's probably lying. Not sure that makes him lynchworthy given we have claimed SK though, lol...

True enough; I think I know to be more hesitant using it in future.

Although, I am sure I have said that as town in the past, lol.
