About Me:Life"s a gamble. Every thing you do has a risk factor. Most times you win. For instance when you eat your breakfast cereal you are gambling on not being poisoned . When you drive to and from any particular place you are gambling on not being involved in an accident. Risks can be either large or small. Gambling with money has a large risk factor. The risk is very high that you will lose. However the excitement of a huge win dulls you into accepting that risk. Some people need that "rush" that comes from a large win for possibly a small outlay. It"s when that "rush" doesn"t come with the first twenty dollar outlay that the gambler continues to pour more and more money into the machine seeking the elusive jackpot. Uncontrolled spending then by people seeking that "rush" turns a person into a compulsive gambler.
Activities:Some people may be desperate for what they see as easy money. When you are poor it hurts to see people with lots of money having a good time. Playing a poker machine gives you a chance to be like those people with lots of money. The truly desperate person will spend twenty dollars that he can"t really afford ,lose that and continue to spend the food money , rent money and whatever he can lay his hands on to win a jackpot. That person needs help. He is well and truly a compulsive gambler. Newspapers are full of stories of people in jobs where trust is placed in them to handle large sums of money yet do not honor that trust. I cannot fathom how the companies that employ these people don"t have some security check which would prevent people from embezzling the enormous amounts of money that they somehow manage to do. I cannot fathom why some people who extract the large sums of money would gamble the entire fortune away.
Beliefs:Supposing a person embezzled one hundred thousand dollars. To a person who is addicted to poker machines purely for the rush ,a hundred thousand dollars would seem like a drug over dose. To a person who is poor and looks to poker machines as a way to get money , a hundred thousand dollars may be just enough to convince that person to join gamblers anonymous so that once all his bills were paid and his bank balance looked healthy he would give up gambling.
