About Me:I'm a college student at the University of Georgia. I have an interest in science and in history, and I am politically active. I'm pretty much a typical guy; I like hanging out with friends: playing sports (especially Ultimate), video games, listening to music, watching movies. I'm generally a cynical, egotistic, sarcastic person who has a hard time dealing with irrational people, but I do have my moments where I'm not too much of a jerk.
Activities:Billiards, Football, Hiking, Martial Arts
Beliefs:I believe that reason is the best tool we have for determining truth and that we must always question our beliefs-- and change them if they are irrational, even if they are treasured beliefs. I believe that faith is not thought, but the absence of thought, the attempt to let somebody else do your thinking for you. Consequentially, I think faith can be very dangerous and that we should avoid accepting anything on blind faith.
Quotes:Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?--Douglas Adams

Pascal's Wager is a Good Argument for Belief in God

Pascal's Wager, for those who are unaware, is a common argument in favor of religious belief. It says "you should believe in God, because if you are right, you go to heaven, and if you are wrong, you lose nothing. But if you don't believe, and you are right, you gain nothing, but if you are wrong, you go to hell. Therefore, no matter how unlikely God's existence may be, you should believe." It was proposed by Blaise Pascal, hence the name. I see this wager proposed quite often in religious d...

America is a Christian Nation

Hi! This is my first debate on this site, so I thought I'd start of with a hello to the community! I would also like to apologize if I miscategorized the debate. It seemed like it could fit equally well into politics or religion. That being out of the way, I shall begin. It is often said-- particularly by right wing politicians and pundits-- that America was founded as a Christian Nation and that we must therefore pass laws in accordance with the Christian religion. However, it is my vie...
