Capitalism

My first debate in a very long time. I would like to keep the character limit at 4k if we could for readability and increasing participation in voting. The first two contentions are theoretical while the last one is practical. You can criticize the system we live by, but *** 1) We have this system for a good reason: it works. It has been nothing short of miraculous for 70 years straight in the US and the US has been and will be the best place to live in the world for the foreseeable fu...

Male homosexuality is a dirty dirty habit

birdman3377
Rob1Billion

My contention is that homosexuality is a dirty dirty habit. Rob1billion has many gay friends. Often he can be spotted at the local gay bar Excess, dancing and cavorting with the local gentry and men like this http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa226/Rob1billion/jared.jpg. Even when a severe ankle sprain confined him to crutches, he managed to make his weekly trip to Excess. I know Rob loves defending the "little man." This time he will be literally defending the "little man" of every homosex...

Birdman is clearly inferior to Rob1billion

Rob1Billion
birdman3377

The purpose of this debate is to haze this newcomer. I consider him my intellectual inferior, and will provide evidence to support this. Here is why I am better than Birdman: Contention 1: Birdman is is well-behind in his organic chemistry studies, and will most likely fail the class (or pass with a mediocre grade). This is because he is too busy eating sushi at Little Tokyo all the time and is not smart enough to realize he should be studying. I, on the other hand, take my classes somewhat s...

Abortion is wrong

Da_King
Rob1Billion

This is a real debate, unlike stevos. I will argue that abortion is wrong in all cases. You will argue that it is ok, but not ok after a certain point (late-term abortions). This first round is just a clarification. I will begin my arguments at the second round....

Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize

Rob1Billion
kkdub

There has been a lot of stir about Obama's winning of the Nobel Peace Prize. I believe he was an excellent candidate, because of the wars he does not promote. Many of the below-mentioned wars are promoted by certain politicians and past Presidents, and since Obama does not follow in their footsteps he deserves credit (even if he hasn't been active in condemning them up until now). 1) WAR IN THE MIDDLE EAST- Obama obviously cannot be blamed for starting this, and he has done a good job so far...

Exploiting people's superstitions for profit should be made a criminal offence

I once sat on a plane behind a timid old lady who was clearly a very nervous flier. She was sat in row 13 and I was sat in row 14 and she turned round to me and said that she believed 13 was an unlucky number and that she owed it to her grandchildren to arrive safely and that she would be be very much obliged if I would swap seats with her. I explained to her that if we swapped seats so that the bad luck was transferred from her to me and the gods decided to punish me for sitting in row 13 by...

Skateboarding should be banned

Ruperttheg
Rob1Billion

Hello. My name is Keenan Harris. Before I start my debate I would like to thank my opponent for taking time out of his/her day to debate me, and I would like to thank the judges for taking time out of their day to read this debate and make intelligent decisions on who should, or should not be, the winner. It is because of you that Debate.org functions. Now onto my debate. Skateboarding should be banned. After you think about it, this statement couldn't seem any more true. As we all know, Urba...

Intelligent extraterrestrial life forms would be viewed as Christians by millions of people

Rob1Billion
JBlake

Please note the 1,000 character limit. 2 hypothetical scenarios: 1) We discover intelligent life that is relatively near our stage of development (both biologically and technologically) on another planet. 2) Aforementioned life lands on Earth (not clandestine {it is sad that I have to specify this}). A significant amount of people (many of which Americans) would likely view these life-forms as Christians....

On balance, Euphemistic language causes more damage to our culture than it does good In the USA.

Rob1Billion
Tatarize

Please be aware of the 2,000 character limit. Euphemisms cause more harm than good in our culture. I just bought an invisible fence for my dog. Instead of telling me the dog would be electrically shocked when she nears the edge of my yard, the trainer told me she would be "issued a correction". I saw a tow truck last year that caught my eye. Apparently the owner of it wants to advertise that he services "late model" automobiles (old cars). Isn't "late" supposed to mean "later"? Like as...

Temperance, fortitude, prudence, and justice form a flawless basis for morality

Nail_Bat
Rob1Billion

I would like to explore a topic that Rob1Billion and I began debating in the comments section of another debate. It is my belief that morality can not be reduced to a set of unambiguous laws. That is to say, we can not find a set of laws that will always yield the same results for moral questions as our intuition would give. My opponent will argue that the morality of an action depends on four unambiguous, unchanging qualities: Temperance, fortitude, prudence, and justice. I will let him...
