Will humans ever artificially evolve?

I believe that humans will someday reach a point with genetic/DNA technology, to the point where we will be able to genetically mutate our own offspring before they are conceived/born. Doing so would allow us to indirectly control the path that evolution takes in our species. Not only that, but the process of human evolution could be greatly sped up.
