About Me:I live in rural, northern Minnestoa. While a lot of people have bashed small town life I like it. Bemidji isn't small enough so everone knows everyone but I can count most of my graduating class among my friends. Life here is laid back, easy going, with lots of good times thrown in. I'm looking foward to seeing more of the world but hope there are still plenty of "Bemidji"s out there. I'm in Football, Track, Speech, Mock Trial, Student Congress, Economics Challenge, Band, and Student Council. Hopefully I can hold my own against you ladies and gentlemen in debate.

The Death Penalty Should Be Continued.

My argument for the death penalty is very simple. I do not hold that it deters crime. I do not hold that "it's what they deserve" (which is very difficult to prove). Simply my position on this issue stems from the fact capital punishment is dealing with a person who is capable of premeditated, cold-blooded rape or murder. In the event of an escape or parole for this individual we are turning a proven killer lose on the public. This should be prevented at all costs, and as extreme as putting some...

The American Revolution was justified

In America the 4th of July is a huge holiday, celebrating the declaration of independance for 13 of the 16 British colonies on the North American continent. The founding fathers are praised for their controbutions to democracy, patriotism, and heroics during the American revolution that started in 1775 AD. But were them and their really all that great? Although I am no pacifist one must realize that engaging in a violent conflict without good reason is not often the wisest choice. The rebe...

Can Communism really work?

Lucan, while communism is very appealing on paper I fail to see how it could work in reality without the existence of a group of morally perfect people. 1. Greed will undermine the system. While I believe that most people are to a greater or lesser degree good what does a communist government do with those few greedy people who refuse to cooperate? If we force them to cooperate then we abridge their rights. If we do not then the system begins to come apart as we have looters taking from what...

Federally-Held Corporations are the best method for administering social programs.

A Federally-Held Corporation would allow the government to both cut taxes and provide greater social services for a lesser cost. Let's take health care for example: The Corporation would operate like an insurance company. Every citizen would pay in a premium and then receive services. However, the rates would be the lowest possible due to the fact this Corporation only needs to cover its own operational costs. In addition due to its independent nature of the Corporation it would be under...
