Quotes: | "A depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom." -Alexis de Tocqueville "The trouble with socialism is sooner or later you run out of other people's money." -Margaret Thatcher "The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design." -F.A. Hayek "It only stands to reason that where there's sacrifice, there's someone collecting sacrificial offerings. Where there's service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master." "Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter." -Ayn Rand |

Objectivism is valid.

The concern of this debate shall be the validity of the philosophy of Objectivism. Objectivism is the philosophy that is intended for use as a guide in every day life and dictates four things: 1.There is an objective reality that exists independent of human perception and desires, i.e. facts are facts.2.The means by which this reality must be perceived is reason. This is because reason is the only means by which data input through our senses can be translated into meaningful information.3.One m...
Should the U.S. have created a single-payer health care system instead of Obamacare?

First round is for acceptance, second is for opening statements third and fourth are for rebuttals, and fifth is for closing statements. I will be arguing Pro (for) in this debate as I feel that the U.S. should have created a single-payer health care system instead of passing Obamacare. The opponent will have to argue that Obamacare is a better option than a single-payer health care system, however, they could also argue for an alternative system over single-payer or what was at the time the...
Was the Japanese Internment Camps Right or Wrong?

I think that it was right to put them into camps because it was for our safety. Of Course they didn't like it, but they also didn't have a problem with it because they were fed, had clothes, had shelter, kids could go to school, and the parents had the opportunity to work. Even if none of them were spies, it doesn't mean that we couldn't take precaution. Also if we didn't do that the Americans would have rebelled and tried to harm the Japanese Americans. So in a sense, we protected them....

The Star Trek mirror universe federation is at least as bad/cruel/evil as Star Wars' Empire....
Essential services should be socialized, and privatized services should be regulated.

I will begin by offering 3 main premises for my argument. 1. Most essential services that all human beings are entitled to as members of society should be socialized. Socialized, meaning owned and operated by the community as a whole, whether that means through the Government, or by general worker consensus. Essential services include healthcare, education, food/housing for the poor, roads, public transit, etc. I am now ready to hear from my opponent. 2. Other services (As in, cell phones...
