(With exceptions for medical abortions)
People seem to provide many standards as to why abortion is right, Often sighting incidents such as rape and incest (which consist of less than 1% of abortions), However, It seems to me people have ignored the simple moral fact. No matter when you deem life viable, A fetus will still become life.

Now, Let's state a conclusion often made; the fetus is alive once it gains a heartbeat.

So- with a conclusion like this, We can say a fetus that currently has no heartbeat will be alive shortly- in a few weeks. Now, What gives the mother the right to prevent this life from happening? The fetus is already, At the very least, In the process of becoming alive. So "prevent" is not quite the right word- as the fetus is being "prevented" from a process it is already taking part in.

And, If we were to ignore the life of the fetus, It seems many people miss the fact that abortion isn't doing society any good. It isn't preventing unwanted pregnancies as birth control does, Or helping women to deal with the financial and emotional struggles of such pregnancies. Rather, Abortion is terminating these pregnancies. To make abortion illegal would force people to recognize this problem from a different, Healthier angle. To understand this, Let us look at the reasons for abortions.

25% say they don't feel old/mature enough to raise a child.
Well, Without abortion, How could we solve this issue? What if instead of abortions, Planned Parenthood provided counseling for these women, Helping them develop the necessary maturity. However, The majority of abortions happen from 20-34 years (20-24 at 31. 1%, 25-29 at 27. 6%, And 30-34 at 17. 7%). For the people having abortions at younger ages, Why not instead provide our youngest with proper sex ed and knowledge of birth control methods? Consider also adoption as an option- women need not keep the child if they truly are not ready.

23% of women state that they are not ready for another child as the reason as their reason for getting an abortion. Again, Abortion is not the best solution for this. Providing counseling could give these mothers a child-ready mindset. Birth control can be used to prevent this unwanted child. Adoption can be used as a child-friendly alternative to abortion.

19% say they can't afford a baby. Let us ask ourselves this; Why are we allowing these women to kill these babies, Instead of providing them financial aid as they may need it? The mothers of our country deserve better treatment- they raise our future. To solve this issue would be harder, But with enough hard work and a few charities, It's possible to help the financially struggling mothers. Again, I go back to adoption and birth control for those who are unable to afford children. Safe sex can prevent many unwanted pregnancies.

Now, We get to smaller percentages.
8% of women say they have completed childbearing/ others depend on them. Again, I resort to birth control and adoption. If you don't want to have children, Don't have unsafe sex.

7% have abortions due to health issues of mother or fetus- now this makes sense! A mother should not die or be seriously injured for a child not yet born.

Less than 0. 5% of abortions are from women who are victims of rape. Now, This is a very hard thing for a woman to endure, But abortion isn't the best solution. Rather, Let us provide women with the care they need to mentally handle a child. Remember adoption as an option. Instead of focusing on abortion, Focus on preventing rape. In certain cases, Where the woman is not mentally stable enough to have a child, I believe this should be considered a medical abortion, But this is not the reason most abortions take place.

Nonetheless, Abortions are a mass murder of future generations. People who now never will exist. Not only is abortion immoral, But it's not even the best option. Having abortion be legal will not help women and their rights, But instead, Kill their children and leave them blind to what could have been done better.

Yes, A fetus has the possibility of becoming life, However, That doesn't make it alive. A heartbeat doesn't mean it's alive, It just means that there's a pulsating chunk of flesh in it.

So is a braindead person who will be healed in nine months just a "pulsating chunk of flesh? ". Is it right to kill them? To pull the plug when you KNOW they will be alive in nine months? To deny something life just because it doesn't think or breathe yet is incorrect. The fetus isn't a pulsating chunk of flesh. It's a LIVING chunk of flesh that has developed organs and limbs and will soon be fully functional. Just because it relies on someone else for its life doesn't make it any less alive; it just makes it dependant.

Basically, Yeah. However, They are more considered a person because of their memories and attachments to people and their attachments to them. It's not murder because a fetus is not alive. To be considered alive medically, One needs to have been born or otherwise removed from the womb after the set gestation period has passed.

So if a person is braindead, And will have serious amnesia, But has the potential to relearn and regain all functionality, THEN it is okay to kill them? To deny a fetus life because they don't have memories is wrong. Unborn children have senses, And even react to the mothers voice while in utero. What gives us the right to selfishly deny children the right to gain memories? I've already shown why abortion is irrational, And there aren't valid reasons to have abortions (aside from medical). So should woman be allowed to kill a child just because it hasn't made memories? By that logic a newborn child can also be killed. And if people haven't made attachments to the unborn, Why is it miscarriage is so hard on people? The children meet the biological critera for life. They are only not considered medically alive due to recent social stigmas and preassure surrounding abortion.

No, It's the memories of the people in their life. Also, That person is ALIVE. Because they were BORN.

I agree completely. There is nothing more frustrating than putting a ton of work and research into a debate, Only to have your opponent be completely half-hearted about the whole thing. Not cool. Hey, FuzzySquid, Maybe we should try debating this same subject? What do you think?

I have a huge problem with this debate. And it's @policy-debate. I was expecting an interesting lively debate with a lot of facts and interesting information. And it looked promising from @Picture's side. But then I read your arguments. @Picture spent time and effort into this debate, Pulling up links and facts, And you just come in like you don't even care, And toss a few sentences around expecting to win. Do you see the problem? Notice how @Picture dropped down to your level near the end. This debate's a joke, Not because of @Picture, Because of you. You wasted probably hours of research and hard work, And will probably still continue to act like this. Note that this is a very rude and disrespectful behavior, And should not continue. I would be very disappointed in you with I was @Picture, Even a little angry. Don't do this again.

As for @Picture, You did great! I think abortion should be legal, But the arguments that you provided almost swayed me to your side! Well done, And I'm sorry your time got wasted. Better luck in the future.

The number one cause of unwanted pregnancy is ignorance not irresponsibility.
If you put the onus of the pregnancy on the women then you have no say as to what she does. Just so you know a sexually active women may spend at most 3 years trying to get pregnant and rest of her life trying not to get pregnant. When a man has sex he risks a few sperm cells a women risks more including her life. Pregnancy to term or abortion the risks are the women's and the choice is the women's not yours.

How do you force punishment for the irresponsibilty of the woman on the unborn baby?
I've already posted in my argument why abortion is irrational. To force punishment upon the child is only a product of our own selfishness. It's not a womens right to punish the child because she was unsafe with sex when she didn't want a child.

Here is a question that never gets answered. How do you force the duties and obligations of pregnancy on a women that does not want to be pregnant. These duties and obligations are essential for a healthy viable baby.

Abortion can and should be made unnecessary but not illegal. Taking away one person's rights in favor of an other's will always be wrong.

Womens choice shouldn't be to terminate a child already in utero. Woman's choice is to have safe sex. Law enforcement goes with everything, Actually. Law enforcement should be used to protect the rights of the unborn. Law enforcement would be integrated, That is to say, We need to introduce other processes and improve them (such as sex ed), Before we can make abortion illegal. This way we move away from abortion, Not making it immediately illegal, But eventually it would be illegal.

Law enforcement and women's health care do not go together. But you think they should. Please explain how law enforcement would be integrated in to women's health care. Also you contradict your-self when you say " But also still acknowledges that a woman should be in control of having children. " against your opening statement "Abortion Should Be Illegal".

@mismedic and that is why I'm proposing alternative solutions. I'm not saying we should just immediately make abortion illegal; We should take other measures also, To create a safer enviornment for women. Such as the infant surrender locations. This is progress that moves away from abortion, But also still aknowledges that a woman should be in control of having children.

One of the greatest detriments to reducing abortion is the Christian attitude that a women should not be aloud to choose and their sole purpose is to have and raise children.
