Abortion should be legal. Regardless of whether the fetus is classified as a human, it is not wrong to have an abortion. The woman has a right to her body and her life. Denying her the write to an abortion is wrong.

Assuming the humanity of the fetus, abortion is wrong as it is the killing of an innocent human life. No society has ever accepted the idea that it is morally acceptable to kill an innocent human being.

Even in such atrocities as the holocaust and various other historical genocides, it was first necessary to either deny the humanity of the victims or attribute some wrongdoing to that class of people before it could be accepted that it was moral to kill them.

The woman DOES have a right to her body and her life, but, assuming it's humanity, so does the fetus.
Debate Round No. 1

First off there have been countless societies that approved of the killing of innocents.(Aztecs,Mongols,Vikings).But regardless of that, it is acceptable to have an abortion, even if it is a innocent human life. Judith Jarvis Thomas makes three valid points. First, if you deny the mothers right to an abortion, you are dehumanizing her and giving more rights to the fetus than to her. This is not fair. Everyone should have equal rights. Second, say you are kidnapped and forced to provide life support to a random stranger. Is it your responsibility to provide support for this stranger? Third, say the women does not want a child and she uses contraception. Still, she winds up pregnant. Now she is forced to give birth and raise a child who she does not love or want. Also what if the Woman if raped? What if the child is the result of incest and is going to be born with countless birth defects? What if carrying the child to term endangers the mother's life? What if the mother is too young to care for a child? There are so many circumstances in which abortion should be allowed. It should be legal.

If you admit that abortion should be acceptable in any of these situations, than you are committing a fallacy. you are saying that human life is only valuable sometimes.

Adoption is a terrible option. Although there are a few cases in which foster kids get adopted and have a wonderful life, there are so many cases in which this does not happen. Hundreds of thousands of kids go adopted every year. They are forced to live in unstable homes always questioning whether anyone ever loved them. Many of them have limited options in life and do not make it to collage.

Overall, abortion is acceptable and not morally wrong, even if the fetus is classified as a human.

Considering my opponent presented no new argument, neither will I. My previous argument gets my point across.

1 point to Pro (Conduct). Reasons for voting decision: child sacrifice, as shown in ancient cultures has only increased and made more "acceptable" why can't we have infant sacrifices?

[*Reason for removal*] Not an RFD. The voter appears to place their own argument here instead, failing to explain the conduct point allocation.

Many circumstances in which abortion should be allowed
-Just because someone lives in a grim and terrible environment doesn"t mean you have the right to end his/her life
-If you hadn"t read the Modest Proposal, you should; killing the sufferers don"t end suffering
-Mothers" duty to protect and nurture, and if this obligation is broken, she has committed an immoral act
- If you so argue that the mother has the right to end the life of her child due to her circumstances and convenience, then explain and justify the situation of Susan Smith

Countless societies approved of killing the innocents
-Killing the innocent is wrong & most know that
Dehumanizing her & giving more rights to the fetus
-Pro-choicers are dehumanizing the fetus by calling a fetus a clump of cells or a parasite
-Right to life is an unalienable right; can"t be given or taken
Paraphrased "Violinist Analogy"
-Terrible analogy
-Should be a child and a mother (The child suffers from a physical illness & needs blood donations. However, only the mother possesses that kind of blood. Fearing that her blood and body would be violated, she denied the request to donate her blood and let her child die. Do you think this is acceptable?)
- A fetus isn"t a stranger; it"s the mother"s offspring and is related to her.
Unloved &unwanted
-You have just destroyed the foundation of Planned Parenthood
-If every child is a wanted child, why did you say she could kill the child b/c it"s unwanted?
-More like "every unwanted & unloved child is a dead child"
-Rape only makes up a tiny % of abortions
-The child is innocent
-The punishment SHOULD BE directed towards the rapist
-Few states preserve evidence from sexual assaults in order to find & punish the rapist. Many states would throw the evidence away w/out consent. Talk about giving the death penalty to the wrong perpetrator.
Birth defects
-When does human worth become justified by the physical & mental appearances?
-Allowing the killing of the vulnerable is unacceptable & immoral
-Why only think of the negative future but not the positive future? Those with birth defects should also experience love, friendship, and hope
Mother"s life at risk
-ONLY circumstance that abortion can be legal
-Not a fallacy b/c I am arguing that life is valuable
-In this situation two lives are at risk, one will die, one will live. It"s impossible to save both lives.
