Affirmative action gives opportunities to those unworthy of them.

I accept this challenge and look forward to hearing your point of view.

The belief that affirmative action is providing a leg up in society is a common misconception. I believe we can all agree that there are people in the United States that face oppression. Affirmative action was created to try and bridge the divide between minorities and the privileged. Affirmative action does not provide a plethora of opportunities for one group but instead creates an equal playing field.

Affirmative Action
/əG2;fərmədiv G2;akSHən/
noun
an action or policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination, especially in relation to employment or education; positive discrimination.

If something is being seen as "affirmative action" but does not fall under the definition, simply put it is not affirmative action. You mentioned that those benefiting from said policies or actions are "unworthy" of them.

How so? What standards must one meet to be "worthy" of affirmative action?

I fully recognize that some people society would deem "unworthy" may slip through the cracks. However, the vast majority of affirmative action recipients are students or employees that otherwise would be working twice as hard for the same opportunities as their counterparts.

Are you aware of the fact that the poor majority ethnic groups are being hurt by this. A poor white man will be forced to give up his admission to a college for a rich black man. An Indian with an SAT score of 1600 will lose admission to a Hispanic with an sat score of 1100. The explorations are limitless through affirmative action.

A better debate prompt might be, "Affirmative action should abolished" then you weigh the pros and cons against each other in a more productive way for judgement.

Yes, you are right, but it also gives opportunities to those who are who otherwise would not be given the chance. It's a two edged sword.
