President Lincoln should not explicitly make this war about slavery, Due to the implications involving slave states that did not join the rebellion.
I'll take the position that the ends justified the means in this case. Lies can be immoral, But they're not as harmful as slavery. I will point to Plato's idea of a noble lie for a precedent of this type of thought process. It was a war, So you can't really say that this position of his caused deaths because they were already trying to kill each other and if you make the argument that they could have ended the war earlier, Then you're just saying that we should have kept slavery around. I see nothing wrong with his approach and it worked after the fact so score one for Lincoln. Your Floor. |
