I request an Atheist to have this debate with.
Atheists believe in mythological concepts. Good luck.
Apophis66

Con

I look forward to hear some examples of atheists who believe in myths. Here are some definitions for the debate.

Mythology:
Traditional or legendary stories, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.

Atheist:
A person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods.

DEATH-

Death is the termination of all biological functions that sustain a living organism. Phenomena which commonly bring about death include biological aging (senescence), predation, malnutrition, disease, suicide, homicide, starvation, dehydration, and accidents or trauma resulting in terminal injury.

Bodies of living organisms begin to decompose shortly after death. Death has commonly been considered a sad or unpleasant occasion, due to the termination of social and familial bonds with the deceased or affection for the being that has died. Other concerns include fear of death, necrophobia, anxiety, sorrow, grief, emotional pain, depression, sympathy, compassion, solitude, or saudade.

Death, also known as the Grim Reaper, The Destroyer, The Hooded One, The Angel of Death, & The "God" of Death, etc. is a common element in human cultures and history. Death is an iconic character throughout the world and is famous for the "Death Touch." As a personified force it has been imagined in many different ways. The popular depiction of Death as a skeletal figure carrying a large scythe and clothed in a black cloak with a hood first arose in 15th century England, while the title "the Grim Reaper" is first attested in 1847.

In some mythologies, the Grim Reaper actually causes the victim's death by coming to collect them. In turn, people in some stories try to hold on to life by avoiding Death's visit, or by fending Death off with bribery or tricks. Other beliefs hold that the Spectre of Death is only a psychopomp, serving to sever the last ties between the soul and the body, and to guide the deceased to the afterlife, without having any control over when or how the victim dies. In many mythologies (including Anglo-American), Death is personified in male form, while in others, Death is perceived as female (for instance, Marzanna in Slavic mythology).

In this link, Sam Harris, an Atheist, speaks about Death.

In one dialogue he even goes on to say "Death is very real."

As a matter of fact, he talks about death a lot in his dialogues and videos.

Well, I wasn't expecting this. Lets get into it.

First, Sam Harris is just one atheist and not all atheists agree with everything he says. Second, death is a very real thing and while we have built a lot of mythology around death that doesn't make death mythological.

Pluto-
(minor-planet designation: 134340 Pluto) is a dwarf planet in the Kuiper belt, a ring of bodies beyond Neptune.

Pluto-
(Greek) was the ruler of the underworld in classical mythology.

Jupiter-
The fifth planet from the Sun and the largest in the Solar System.

Jupiter, also Jove (Latin: Iuppiter, gen. Iovis), is the god of sky and thunder and king of the gods in Ancient Roman religion and mythology.

Apophis66 QUOTE-

"First, Sam Harris is just one atheist and not all atheists agree with everything he says."

Richard Dawkins, Atheist author of "The God Delusion", speaks about death and admits it is real.

Apophis66 QUOTE-

"Second, death is a very real thing..."

Aha!!! Apophis66 admits the hooded one with the sickle is real.
Apophis66

Con

Pluto and Jupiter and very real things that have been observed with telescopes. Those are what atheists believe in. The ancient Greeks had Gods of the same name but those Gods are different than the planets named after them. I do believe in death but only the physical version of death not the hooded sickle guy.

3 points to Con (Arguments). Reasons for voting decision: Pro has the button of proof and did not meet it. Her arguments were that because death has mythological conotaions and atheists believe in death, they believe the mythological aspects. This was in no way established. She further tried to join the fact that planets are manned after mythological names, this somehow meant atheists believed the myths behind them. She made no arguments showing why th e naming of planets was also hated with atheism in the first place, nor how naming something meant believing the myths behind the name. Con pointed out that one atheists belief did not necessarily reflect on all atheists. Pro did not make her car, con refuted what few points did not fail on their face.

[*Reason for removal*] The voter has to explain why Pro has the buRDen of proof, not just state that Pro did, and then must explain what that BoP requires of her.

7 points to Con. Reasons for voting decision: Pro made nothing but silly arguments, trying to tie belief that death is real to mythological beliefs about death, and then that using mythological names for planets (which has nothing to do with Atheism) meant it involved mythological beliefs. Silly beyond belief.

[*Reason for removal*] (1) The voter doesn"t explain conduct, S&G or sources. (2) Arguments are insufficiently explained. The voter is required to either place the BoP on Pro and explain why he didn"t achieve it, or assess specific arguments presented by both sides. The voter only assesses Pro"s arguments.
