Yes the word has a negative past, but I believe there should be no reason why the word should not be used in the right context. Nobody should use the n-word as an insult or to put others down. As a society, though we should be able to use the n-word referring to it in its context or as long as it's not used as a slur.

Black people can say the n-word to other black people it does not mean it is okay to say it to someone even in a joking matter.
The word is a word that has been known as a derogatory word and even if used in a kind or facetious manner is still morally wrong to say, no one wants black and white adversity. If a black person was to tell a white person even if they were friends "white people are garbage, they should die" would that be okay? The dictionary definition is "a contemptuous term for a black or dark-skinned person" showing a lack of respect for black people and making racial comments, in general, is not ok.

Personally, I am not offended by the n-word, but I agree that no one should be called a n*gger. It's an offensive slur. However, if someone who is white is writing a story about, for example, times of slavery. Should he/she say "stupid black person" to substitute the n-word, as to not offend anyone? No, of course not. Using the n-word, instead of substituting it for non-harsh language is accurate, and necessary in conveying the severity of slavery. Necessary in conveying how the ideals of our country have changed.

Also... response to your argument about a black person telling a white person that his race is garbage and should die: No that is not the same thing. If you tell anyone, no matter their race that they are garbage, and ought to die, that is completely inappropriate. Using the n-word, in context with a place and time in which the word was synonymous is not.

The debate was "can a white person say the n-word" this was not talking about writing a story about the past. Your main claim in the last argument was that saying they should die is not the same thing, but it is a word that white slave owners said and bringing back a time of horrible suppression is not needed. Honestly, I think black people shouldn't say the n-word either.

Yes you're right, the debate is whether a white person can say the n-word. However, if you took a look at my initial argument when you accepted, you might of seen that I said use of it as slur is unacceptable, but as a society we should be able to use it in "its context. A story written about slavery would have such historical context. The argument about not using the word, as to not bring back horrible oppression does not hold up. Do we avoid not discussing other horrible aspects of history, like the torture of Jews and Americans in concentration camps during World War II or the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as to not offend anyone. As to not bring back the horrid memories. No we discuss these things. We have to.

You did say no one should use it as a slur to or put others down if you were to say in context in the title you would have a valid argument but you didn't. Your initial argument states "Nobody should use the n-word as an insult or to put others down." So are you trying to argue on my side? This argument isn't about context or your initial argument, it's about the title. You are on the pro side I don't understand your argument, you LITERALLY SAID it is wrong for anyone to say it, please help me understand.
