Pro will be arguing that Chess takes more skill and experience than Poker to play at a high level, While Con will be arguing against this. We will use the opening rounds to clarify anything that needs to be clarified.
Let us begin by defining the the terms used in the debate. 1. Skill: The ability to do something well. 2. Experience: The knowledge or skill acquired by experience over a period of time, Especially that gained in a particular profession by someone at work. 3. High-level: at or of a level above that which is normal or average. If you agree with the definitions presented here then I will leave to you the duty of defining chess and poker. Note: I love chess and am participating in this debate as a mental exercise. |

Thank you for accepting this debate. I'll use the Merriam-Webster to define both chess and poker.
Chess: a game for 2 players each of whom moves 16 pieces according to fixed rules across a checkerboard and tries to checkmate the opponent's king Poker: any of several card games in which a player bets that the value of his or her hand is greater than that of the hands held by others, In which each subsequent player must either equal or raise the bet or drop out, And in which the player holding the highest hand at the end of the betting wins the pot I understand that there are many versions of Poker, So let's reference Texas Hold'em, Which is the most popular version, To represent the concept of Poker in this debate unless you want to include other variations.
