I believe Jesus was God.

1) All the prophecies about Jesus in the old testament ALL came true in the new testament.

2) Either Jesus was who said He was, or He was a complete nutcase.

3) Jesus could had denied being God at any point to avoid being crucified, but He went through that horrific death.

4) Jesus' death was not random. It was a prophesy in the OT and Jesus told His disciples he was going to die.

5) Jesus worked multiple miracles

6) Jesus rose from the dead.

1) In order to win this debate, I simply have to prove that Jesus did not fulfill every prophecy in the old testament.

2) There are many other possibilities. Maybe he was a liar. Or maybe he was misled. Why choose the two extremes?

3) The Romans didn't care. They were killing an enemy of the state. He could have claimed to be Michael Jackson. Last second pleas for mercy mean nothing

4) Nothing is random.

5) Like what?

6) Sources please?
Debate Round No. 1

1) Here are just a few prophecies Jesus fullfilled
A = Old Testament Prophecy of Jesus Christ
B = New Testament Prophecy Fulfilled

A) "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old,
from ancient times."
Micah 5:2

B) "After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem."
Matthew 2:1

A) "He was despised and rejected by men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not."
Isaiah 53:3

B) "For not even his brothers believed in him."
John 7:5

A) And he said, "Go, and say to this people:

""Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
keep on seeing, but do not perceive."
Make the heart of this people dull,
and their ears heavy,
and blind their eyes;
lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed."
Isaiah 6:9-10

B) Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:

"I will open my mouth in parables,
I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world."
Matthew 13:34-35

A) I will tell of the decree:
The Lord said to me, "You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
Psalms 2:7

B) And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
Matthew 3:16-17

A) "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord"s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn."
Isaiah 61:1-2

B) "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
Luke 4:18-19

A) Even my close friend,
someone I trusted,
one who shared my bread,
has turned against me.
Psalm 41:9

B) "While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus asked him, 'Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?'"
Luke 22:47-48

A) "Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger."
Psalm 8:2

B) "Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him.

"Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read,

""From the lips of children and infants
you, Lord, have called forth your praise?"

A) "Ruthless witnesses come forward;
they question me on things I know nothing about."

B) "Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: "We heard him say, "I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another, not made with hands.""
Mark 14:57-58

A) "He was oppressed and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth."

B) "So again Pilate asked him, 'Aren"t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.'
But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed."
Mark 15:4-5

A) "Those who hate me without reason
outnumber the hairs of my head;
many are my enemies without cause,
those who seek to destroy me.
I am forced to restore
what I did not steal."
Psalm 69:4

B) "If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: "They hated me without reason.""
John 15:24-25

A) "Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors."
Isaiah 53:12

B) "They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left."
Mark 15:27-28

I am limited to 500 characters, and somehow Pro just used way more than that. Pro should lose conduct points for that.

Jesus didn't fulfill enough prophecies to be the Messiah. (
If someone fails to meet even one criteria, they aren't the messiah.

Pro has't provided any actual evidence that Jesus is in fact God. Not only did I refute his claims that Jesus fulfilled all of the prophecies, but he has not cited any evidence outside of some bible verses.
Debate Round No. 2

Those prophecies on that website are misinterpreted. He did fulfill them.

Argument on website:

A. Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28).
It is not referring to any temple. It is referring to the multiplying of disciples (through the Holy Spirit) and forming multiple churches. When the verse refers to "Sanctuary" it does not mean one temple. It means God is setting up a way to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ. That website is false.

There were 353 prophesies fulfilled by Jesus. Your argument is that 5 or 6 prophesies were not fulfilled, therefore Jesus was not God. According to some random website written by someone's opinion, those were not fulfilled. So even if there were 347 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus, that in itself is strong evidence. The remaining 6 should be tested with scripture. Whoever wrote that website, their interpretation of the prophecies were incorrect. But just because you post a random website does not "debunk" that Jesus was God. I still have yet to find a prophecy of Jesus that has not been fulfilled.. Believe me, i've studied this topic for years.

Didn't mean to set a 500 Character. I made a new debate "was Jesus the messiah" with a higher character setting.

I will explain how Jesus did not fulfill his requirements to be Messiah in the next round. Pro set a 500 character limit.
