I hold to the position that people without felonies should be able to own a gun in the United States.

The thing that you don't understand is that's exactly what gun control does. If you don't have a mental disability, or if you don't have a criminal record you shouldn't complain. Gun control is simply stoppin those kind of people. If you truly are afraid about "guns being taken away" which legally isn't possible because of the constitution, then
1) you aren't sure of you own mental stability or
2) you're afraid you have a criminal record...?
I mean if you want to carry around a pistol to protect yourself fine. Or if you want to buy a hunting rifle...fine. But you don't need semi-auto's or auto's. People kill people yes, but how much harder would it be for a possible school shooter to kill people, if they had a gun...or a knife. People may kill people, but gun's kill far more.
Debate Round No. 1

Definition of gun-

a : a piece of ordnance usually with high muzzle velocity and comparatively flat trajectory

b : a portable firearm (such as a rifle or handgun)

c : a device that throws a projectile

POINT 1 ----------

People living out in the country have no cops nearby to defend them, & need a way of defense. There also is no guarantee of when the police will show up or if at all. They may be busy. Maybe they can't find you. Maybe dispatch loses track of your emergency.

POINT 2 ----------

The physically disabled and women have the right to equalize a situation against someone much stronger or bigger than they are.

"Mom who killed home invader: 'It was either him or me, and I wasn't going'"

POINT 3 ----------

-Because those who want no one to have guns can't even begin to tell us how to disarm 33,000 gangs with millions of members.

POINT 4 ----------

Lawbreakers will not care what the law says and still will have a gun. Disarming law abiding citizens is nonsensical.

POINT 5 ----------

If someone broke into your house and raped your mom, wife, and/or your daughter right in front of you at gunpoint and you knew that you having a gun would have prevented it, you'd look back forever and wonder if you could have stopped it had you been armed.

POINT 6 ----------

Illegals in sanctuary cities and states are let loose despite having a firearm. They don't get MORE rights than me.

POINT 7 ----------

Claiming the police and the system are systematically oppressing blacks, & then demanding blacks disarm, is nonsensical.

This is an exercise in fundamental common sense. Liberals claim that the police systematically single out and oppress the black community. How can one then turn around and say that disarming the black community of its guns is "Social Justice"???

POINT 8 ----------

Gun grabs empower corrupt governments rather than the people.

If there is almost no chance of a normal, everyday citizen killing anyone with a gun, disarming them can only have the motive of corruption and desire to play "Big Brother" to the citizenry. Why do you need our guns if we aren't murdering anyone with them?

POINT 9 ----------

There is little chance of being killed by a gun statistically, so the "gun homicides are out of control" narrative is a flat out lie.

There were 11,208 gun homicides in 2013. There are about 320,000,000 people in the United States. Let's do the math.

There is a 0.000035025% chance of getting killed by a gun in a homicide.

"Gun violence is most common in poor urban areas and frequently associated with gang violence, often involving male juveniles or young adult males."

Gangs will not disarm no matter what the law says, and if you take away gang violence, almost no one gets killed by a gun in a homicide.

1,358 people were killed in what is defined as a "mass shooting" in 2015.

This means there is a 0.0000042438% chance of being killed in a mass shooting.

This is literally comparable to the odds of being struck by lightning, that is to say, almost no chance.

According to the CDC, gang homicides accounted for roughly 8,900 of 11,100 gun murders on average in 2010 and 2011. That means that there were just 2,200 non gang-related firearm murders in both years in a country of over 320,000,000 legal citizens.

This means there is a 0.000006875% chance that I am killed by a gun in a non gang related homicide.

So what's the point?

1)Normal, law abiding citizens, are statistically, extremely responsible with guns. There's no non-corrupt reason to disarm innocent, law abiding citizenry.

2)Non law abiding people don't obey laws, including gun laws. So gun laws only disarm innocent, law abiding citizenry, making them soft targets for non-law abiding criminals.

3)Disarming law abiding citizens is pointless and wrong.

The United States Constitutional issue.

A mental disability is a large vague term""".the idea is that regulation by law should not force the voter to commit a criminal act. If the legislation creates that position the law itself is a danger or weapon and illegal already by basic principle. Insanity is an alibi used in the undertaking of crime which means people who legislate organized crime may be found to be mentally incumbent as well.

The argument is that the United State of Constitutional understanding is violated to circumvent double jeopardy by the fabrication of additional crimes by the act of ownership only without use. If a person commits 10 murders and stands trial for ten murders the weight of the assault weapon is a plea bargain tool and does not serve the judicial separation of the general welfare directly.

Also a quick question: Do admissions to felony crimes count as conviction event if the sentence is not applied to the confession as of yet?

The argument that guns should be banned is simply stupid and elementary. What people fail to realize is that there is no reason to take guns away from Americans. Semi-automatic and automatic weapons alike only account for 1-2% of all gun violence in the United States, so taking just those weapons away is just, in lack of a better word, stupid. In addition, the last time a government forcefully, it resulted in ethnic cleansing in Nazi Germany. In 1931, Weimar authorities discovered plans for a Nazi takeover in which Jews would be denied food and persons refusing to surrender their guns within 24 hours would be executed. In 1933, the ultimate extremist group, led by Adolf Hitler, seized power and used these same records to identify, disarm, and attack political opponents and Jews. And, do not tell me the United States and Germany are not the same situation, because in today's American society, the cultural and social arguments that are occurring between the poles of the current political spectrum parallel those of Germany in the early 1900's. Then, strict gun regulation legislature passed in Germany, and a dictator and his elitist party murdered millions of innocent lives because "they were oppressors." These same events could occur in the United States ( on a smaller, or bigger scale - no one really knows) because we see these events taking place. No one educated individual in the United States can say that political and social tensions are not at their highest that our country has seen. For example, feminists and African Americans alike are claiming that the "white male" is an oppressor to their population, and this is simply false. These people don't understand the difference between equality and fairness. Well, that's another debate. All in all, we should be extremely cautious when legislating gun control policies, for it may result in the self-destruction of our own societal construct.

The argument is rubbish, the can not even remotely say who is unfit - EVER - the majority of killers already run free and work in society.

Guns should not be allowed in schools, is illegal and stupid and allows inexperienced people to proclaim themselves as able to defend. A cowboy mentality that is nothing but a farce. Guns should be banned.

Con said they were okay with pistols but not with semi-automatic weapons? I'm pretty sure most pistols are semi-automatic.
