I believe we should. We've had too many Presidents who have come from rich backgrounds. This makes them insensitive to the plight of poor people. Just look at Obama. He comes to LA to speak and make money. He never does go to Skid Row though. We poor people have suffered under Presidents who are ignorant of the plight of poor people. I strongly believe that the next President should come from a poor background so as he is aware of the plight of the poor.
I accept this debate and look forward to having this discussion with you. |

We should elect a president from a poor background. Presidents from a rich background are insensitive to the plight of the poor. They spend too much money on other countries instead of trying to fix the problems we have back home. Finally Presidents from rich backgrounds are ignorant of the poor.
Presidents from a rich background are insensitive to the plight of the poor. Obama comes to LA quite a bit. However, he never goes to Skid Row. There are 254,000 homeless in Los Angeles alone! Many of these have lost their jobs as a result of the economic state. Remember when those people were protesting all over the country since many didn't have jobs? The Presidents spend too much money on other countries instead of bettering the lives of people at home. Take Israel for example, last year alone we sent them 3.1 billion. With that 3.1 billion used at home we could have got many people out of homelessness. Another example is Iraq. We have wasted so much money and lost so many lives over there for nothing. You cannot end terrorism. That money would have been better spent back home improving schools in poor communities. Why do you think America has so many low test scores compared to other countries? The answer is that we throw trillions of dollars away at other countries instead of using it to better our country. Presidents from rich backgrounds are ignorant of the poor. Again Obama has never visited and most likely will never visit Skid Row. Many Presidents are down right ignorant of how many homeless we have got. As stated before we have 254,000 in LA alone! With the money those Presidents have been throwing at other countries we could have built shelters, improved LA's horrible roads, and the schools. As you can see there are many reasons why the next President we elect should be from a poor background. From him being aware of the poor's plight to him most likely bettering the poor lot. This is why I firmly believe the next President should be from a poor background. HistoryBuff forfeited this round. |

Here's why: In order to get a job in political science, you need a masters degree. That's six years of expensive schooling right there. After that, you'll want a law degree. That means that you need three more years of even more expensive education. No poor person could afford that. I don't care about student loans, those don't feed you.
