Many people believe that abortion should not be allowed due to that fact that it is "killing the baby." I believe that it should be allowed since each woman should be allowed to make decisions about their body, not have these decisions made by the government.

I believe that abortion is wrong and it should be illegal. I think it's disgusting and f'ed up that going into the womb and killing the baby is a thing.

Here's my idea: If the couple doesn't want the baby, they should at least give it up for adoption. It's honestly better than committing murder. Murder is illegal, right?
Debate Round No. 1

There are many reasons that abortion should stay legal. For one, the United States Supreme Court has already declared abortion constitutional. This was done in the case Roe vs. Wade, conducted in 1973.

In addition, women will continue to have abortions, even if they are made illegal. Since legal abortions are safer than illegal ones, abortions should remain legal to ensure the safety of women.

Also, many women have sound reasons for wanting abortions. For instance, if a woman is raped and then becomes pregnant, they are not likely to want to keep the baby. If a girl becomes pregnant in high school, they are unlikely to want to the keep the baby, let alone be able to care for it. Even though adoption is a good option for some people, it is not a viable option for others. If a girl in high school gets pregnant and has to wait 9 months before she can continue living a normal life, she will get set back in school and will likely remain set back for years to come.

Many women do not have the money to maintain a healthy pregnancy. Pregnancy is expensive due to the multiple doctors' appointments, specific foods needed, and new clothes. 42% of women having abortions live below the federal poverty line.

There is also research that shows that women who receive abortions are less likely to have mental health problems than women who are denied abortions. In additions, there is also research that shows that women who are denied abortions are more likely to become unemployed, be on public welfare, be below the poverty line, and be victims of domestic violence.

Abortion is also a justified mean of population control. If a baby is not wanted, then they should not be brought into this world, especially when there are already more people than the earth is able to sustain.

In conclusion, abortion should remain legal due to its many benefits.

It is a paradox, your arguing that the rights of one person should be taken for the rights of an other. But who's? Since obligation and duty can not be forced on a person, in other words a women can not be forced to stay pregnant, the women's rights come first. Unless women are given better options in America, abortions will persist.

You commented,"." I believe that it should be allowed since each woman should be allowed to make decisions about their body,...."
sotheseedsofliberty2's response: Your statement that "...each woman should be allowed to make decisions about their body,...." Is a statement that refutes the argument that a woman has the right to abort a baby.
".....each woman should be allowed to make decisions about their body,...." The Baby / FETUS, which the mother is aborting at an abortion Mill, is not the woman's body but a separate appendage, aborting the baby, doesn't terminate the personage of the mother.
Each individual has the right to make a decision on their personal course of action that effects only that individual but they don't have the right, or shouldn't have, to make decisions about the life or the death of another personage.
The Mother goes on living after the abortion, thus it isn't her body that is aborted but a separate appendage which is attached for a certain period of time with its own immediate rights as a human life to be recognized equally as valid by a civil society.

Abortion should be legal as a solution to overpopulation.
