Yes, They should be banned because why would they show the TV-MA and/or R-rated movies (including horror ones) on advertisements? This would encourage kids to do violent stuff (killing some people, Etc) and having these ads likely scar viewer(s), Especially when ads show murder and even horrifying jumpscares, So the conclusion is TV and YouTube should NEVER advertise R-rated and TV-MA movies/series (especially horror ones).

Odd that you would post a 1-round debate.

You are essentially giving your opinion with no supporting evidence and giving yourself no opportunity to respond to my claims.

Essentially, Gaming and other violent materials (movies, Shows, Et cetera) have no link to violent behavior in children or adults.

As the sale of violent video games and violent materials has increased, Violent crime has largely dropped off, Particularly juvenile crime. If there is a correlation, It is a negative one. In general, The more time you are gaming or watching violent movies, The less time you have to actually do these things. (both facts easily looked up from FBI stats)

Violent shows can be a form of catharsis, Leading to less violence in reality. (Journal of Adolescent Health survey research)

As far as 'scarring' people goes, I have no idea what you mean by this. Perhaps a rape victim shouldn't be shown rape scenes et cetera?

For me, This is no justification for it. Ad content should reflect the material shown on Youtube or TV. If you're watching a kid's channel you shouldn't see this kind of thing to begin with. More mature youtube channels should had murder or other more violent shows as advertisements as well.

Banning is hardly the answer.

May your thoughts be clear,

@dinachen,

Banned is different from regulated. I agreed with you in that only mature shows should show mature content. This is largely how it is. Occasional mistakes are heavily frowned upon and advertising agencies do their best not to, Largely.

Reasons for voting decision: Although the contender made a convincing argument against the instigator, I'm still on the pro side. Basically I agree with the instigators overall opinion, but no the instigators reasons. The reason why I believe that entertainment with mature content should be banned is because we don't know how people are going to react when they see the mature content. They might get truamatized, they might puke, they might have a panic attack, they might learn to swear from it , etc. We also can't control whose watching TV at which time and when the ads are going to pop up. So it's better for the advertising to be regulated instead of banned.

Reasons for voting decision: Con successfully points out that Pro's argument that kids would be encouraged to "do violent stuff" such as "killing some people" is not supported by any data and argued that, to the contrary, "As the sale of violent video games and violent materials has increased, Violent crime has largely dropped off". Therefore, arguments is awarded to Con
