In many states (I think 9), felons are not allowed to vote. After serving their time in prison, completing probation, and re-entering society, they are banned from placing their ballots in state and federal elections.

The argument many people make is this: "If you aren't willing to follow the law, you can't claim the right to make the law for everyone else."

I find this to be absurd argument. Yes, they broke the law, but they have already served their time and punishment. And going to jail does NOT mean they are no longer American citizens! As citizens we have the right to vote, how can this even be real?

As you can probably tell, this is more of a relaxed debate so feel comfortable. It's not about destroying you in a debate, I am just largely interested in hearing the other side.
