I'm from Ireland and I'm forced to learn Irish even though I have know interest in it and in Ireland we speak English, what's the point?

Yes, one main reason is for the sake of maintaining cultural heritage. Much of a people's culture is tied to the language. If the language is forgotten then it's possible for the traditional culture to be forgotten. Culture is very important and I will develop this throughout the course of the debate.
