Why or Why not?

No, of course it should not be taught in schools. If all children are taught properly they will never need self defence. Self defence will only grow children's interests in fighting. There are many steps you should be able to take miles before you need self defence. Self defence is one of your last steps you should ever take. Now, I'm not saying it shouldn't be taught but what I am saying is school isn't the right place for it. Children need to be focused on their education in school not fighting. Also if they are taught fighting within the school grounds it will make them very giddy and they will behave poorly. Fighting is not something that should be promoted within school it needs to be taught in the correct environment outside of school. Also in school it may give bullies the chance to look intimidating and be intimidating and if there are fights that take place in school people will be able to tell their teachers that it was just self defence and they were taught it rather than them learning that fighting and school should be kept separate.
