My dad was fired from Pizza Hut because he was going to miss his lunch shift to take my mom ( who has leukemia) to an emergency doctors appointment in Indianapolis do yo think it is right or wrong

I believe that if you have someone with a medical disorder, you should let your boss know. If you know that a family member has an appointment, than you should also let your boss know. If it really is an emergency, you should tell your boss what happened.

Are we talking from a legal standpoint or an ethical one?

Depends. If he never notified them of the situation afterwards, I can see why Pizza Hut MIGHT do something like that. But if he told them before or shortly after, he shouldn't have been fired.
