I believe that social media is the cause of many types of bullying as different sectors of people are promoted more than others which gives out the vibe to young people that one is more favourable than the other. Society is all about norms, you have to act a certain way, look a certain, and behave a certain way, and one step out of that certain way you are not normal. Therefore I believe that the way social media promotes their views is the cause of bullying amongst many individuals.
" The word bully can be traced back as far as the 1530"s" (Harper 2008) The quote above states that the word bully has been in existence for 600 years, social media did not create bullying. I believe that it is not necessarily the fact that social media is creating bullying, there are always bullies but social media does not necessarily cause the bullying. Bullying has not in all cases increased from social media, it just seems as though they have increased because of the fact that bullies may use things like twitter or Facebook to bully. Yes that is true, but social media is not always the cause of the bullying it just might be what the bullies use to bully. Therefore I believe that social media is not always the cause it is usually just what the bully may use to do what they already do, which is to bully. |

So the fact that social media promote such things as the perfect body and the perfect way of living
doesn't in fact mould young people to believe that if you're not like that then you are supposably ugly? Look at Victoria Beckham, her dieting was glamorised through the media, and so it then persuaded young people that, it was in fact beautiful to look that way. Where was the negativity behind it? Think about modelling agencies, you have to look a certain way or else. So I do believe that the way social media present different circumstances has an impact on the rates of bullying.
Yes I do agree that the way that social media promotes a perfect body and a perfect way of living does mould young people to believe certain things. You are talking about the effects of social media on girls and how the pressures of society can have negative effects on girls. You are not talking about the topic of this debate. Bullying usually involves an intimidator and a victim. Yes social media does have pressure on people to act or be a certain way, but that is a different topic, I believe that social media is a tool for which bullies use to bully. |
