I am definitely against the slang talk you hear so many of our kids speak these days. It is worse than the computer short lingo and it is very annoying. There is no use for slang, we are not in the war as espionage spies nor are we CIA operatives so we do not need code language for ever little thing out there in the world.
Slang is the evolution of language. My opponent, in fact, is speaking what would be considered slang years back. Slang is also human creativity coming out in language. Slang can also be viewed as artistic. Slang has a function in society as so (through our music and writing, help different cultures communicate), and also helps different cultures express themselves. What we use now is far different from the English say people in Shakespeare's day used: "O, spirit of love, how quick and fresh art thou !" Twelfth N, Act i, Sc.1 - Shakespeare Our language is the evolution of their's through the use of slang that is developed to express our culture and times. Evolution is change to adapt to environment in order to survive. Communications aids in human survival. Adapting communication (language in this case) to suit the needs of culture (which is also used as a tool of survival) is acceptable. Therefore adaptation of language to fit culture in order to aid in survival is acceptable. peace and much love, the Vi. :) |

Maybe I'll take you up on that soon :) Watch and wait for a challenge...
I love your views; if only I could make you switch your global warming theory.
Challenge me and I'll bring you your first loss.
LOL
I was thinking several things like that. First, we can argue that slang is just as hurtful to people who speak other languages. Or argue that the soul doesn't exist, etc.
oh and p.s not that any ofyou care, but I type just to type and I am not going anywhere. I will be here to terrorize Debate.org, for eternity!
I might have just pulled a Kleptin.
Using slang in real life may be fine, but using slang on the internet is just terrible. Reading and writing != speaking and listening.
It's hard for us to understand "wut u meen wen ur talkin lik dis".
Have mercy on those of us who have learned how to read and write prior to the advent of instant messaging.
