For this debate I will be saying the Earth is a sphere

The Earth is spherical as any shape in space, more than a few miles long collapses into a ball because of gravity. This is because the gravitational pull is equal at every point of the surface on a sphere as every point on the surface of the sphere is an equal distance from the centre(Earth"s core). This is the point at which the shape would be steady and movement because of gravity would not happen. That is why the earth can only be spherical.

Another reason is that in a spherical shape, say you had a tree behind the curvature, you would not be able to see it from the ground whereas you would be able to see it from a higher position. If the Earth were flat surface this would not happen although it does(you can see further from on top of a mountain than at sea level).

Finally you can see the curvature of Earth from the ISS (The International Space Station).
