Does having an unlimited amount of time to respond on a debate on a website
Like this one help you develop debatability skill as a real world application. Question being is because here you can give a response to a question five hours after its been asked and you have thought it over but in a real argument you only have a few seconds to analyze and remark back to a real world argument.
I believe that having a long time to formulate a debate on sites such as this one does contribute to growing debate skills. Having time to give a response allows for better constructed arguments, better sources, and it makes a losing debater less likely to resort to ad hominem statements. Doing this helps you learn debate etiquette which can be translated into real world scenarios where your opponent will seem unprofessional and uneducated because you'll know how to debate, while they're just throwing information at you. |

Simply having debate etiquette does not mean you can quickly analyze a remark and reply back to it.
If solely having etiquette in a debate were the grounds for winning an argument then the facts presented in your reply to your opponent would mean nothing as long As you said it politely (with etiquette).
Understanding the art of debate better than your opponent goes a lot farther than you claim. If your opponent cannot articulate his/her thoughts as well as you, than you are more likely to win the debate. Another reason that debating on sites such as these is helpful when you enter a real debate is due to the fact that if you have researched the topic at hand in an internet debate, you will know more about the topic than your opponent. You will have encountered many of the arguments they will use, and will know how to refute their claims. Even if you're not able to quickly analyze a remark very quickly, there's a good chance that you will have retained certain information that will enable you to either stall until you can think of something, or crush their weaker points without even thinking. In summary, debating on the internet gives you an intellectual advantage. |

bluemariodog forfeited this round.
As Con has failed to meet his burden of proof, and forfeited the final round, I extend all arguments. Vote pro. |
