Argument:
Take a look when Thanos was talking to Gammora. The reason why he wanted to destroy half the universe was because he believed it was over populated. The only way to solve issues like hunger in different worlds was to wipe half the population. Although we may think that,"Oh Thanos is wanting to kill half the universe, that means he is a villan," take a look at the bigger picture:He has good intention just that he found the right solution to the wrong problem. He probrably had his mind set on the fact that half the universe must perish like how the athetist has his/her mind set on the fact god does not exist. The following videos says it all:

So we have to look at the bigger picture which was Thanos"s intention to see that he isnt exactly a villan.

noun
1.
(in a film, novel, or play) a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot.

Do you consider killing half of the universes population evil actions. We know that his evil motives are integral to the plot.
Thanos could have have done the opposite. He could have done the opposite and given the universe plentiful resources.Yet in his entire quest for the infinity stones he failed to realize that there was an alternative. He claims that every world will eventually die but he fails to realize that not every world is the same.Slaughtering half of the worlds population is only a temporary solution.Just for an example in 1970 the population of earth was 3.7 billion.Today only 48 years later it is 7.6 billion.killing hald ofthe population would be genocide. It would also be useless.

Argument:
His goal was to save the universe, not destroy it. Thanos wasnt after global, universal or multiversal domination. His primary interest was not claiming power and riches for himself. What he wanted to do was stop the destruction of planets caused by overpopulation and create abundance, while eradicating poverty and ultimate, inevitable annihalation. He wanted to restore the balance.

A bad guy capable not only of love, but also of sacrifice in order to do what he believes needs to be done for the greater good, you can"t help but start to question his standing as the villain of the piece. He"s not after wealth or power as ends in themselves, like other bad guys. We"ve already established that.

Rather, he"s basically the ultimate eco-warrior, willing to step up and do what it takes to save the universe. He even has proof that his plan will work " Gamora"s home planet is now thriving as a "paradise" since his visit years ago. During which he wiped out half her people, sure. But they were a race struggling for survival and apparently doomed to destroy themselves.

Rebuttals:
"Do you consider killing half of the universes population evil actions. We know that his evil motives are integral to the plot.
Thanos could have have done the opposite. He could have done the opposite and given the universe plentiful resources." Well yes killing half the population is considered evil and yes his "evil" motives are integral to the plot and yes there could have been other alternatives but he didnt see the bigger picture. Like I mentioned in my example:just like the athetist whose mind is set on the fact that god does not exist,Thanos had his mind set that in order to solve the issue he had to kill half the universe and no one told him another plan.

Question for my opponent:Assmuing you are Thanos, you find that the universe is over populating. You have your mind set on the fact that you need to wipe out half the universe and no one gives you another solution. What would you do?
