I believe that the blood shed during the Civil War to purchase the freedom for blacks is enough reparations for slavery. Anything else is just a demand for free money from people who work an honest living and never owned a slave and their ancestors didn't either.

Reparations would mean everyone would be paying for the wrongs of slavery, However, The Civil War did"t impact everyone. As far as casualties, The North lost 360, 222 and the South lost 258, 000 (University of New York) meaning that the people fighting for slavery lost more than a hundred thousand less men than those fighting against it. This means that the slave owner"s and their supporters where impacted less, And one could argue that, Because the North lost more men, In fact an even greater debt is owed.

The opinion that the Civil War served as reparations is also assuming that former slaves have not faced any discrimination since then, And that is simply untrue.

Of course not everyone"s ancestors owned slaves, But most people"s ancestors were not at the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Yet we all celebrate on the Fourth of July. In other words, We reap the rewards of the good things in U. S. History, Even if our ancestors played no role.

Discrimination and being a slave is very different. If we gave reparations for discrimination our government would be bankrupt. My point is only to focus on slavery and say that the death of so many soldiers is enough to pay the debt of slavery.

While most people's ancestors were not at the signing of the Declaration, Most people's ancestors, Or at least a large majority were part of the process to get it ratified, As mine were. Also my ancestors actually fought in the Civil War on the Union side.

I do not yet see a good reason from your perspective of why their lives is not enough to pay the debt of slavery. I would like to conclude by saying that I believe most slaves at the time did admit that the debt had been paid and they started a holiday that became known as Memorial Day.

If you believe that money can repay anyone for the hardships that their ancestors went through, Then you are dead wrong. How would you feel if a murderer could walk off scot-free after paying 100, 000 dollars to the family of his victim?
