why are we killing innocent children resolved: the united states of America should not highly value abortion. If you can't keep a baby or are unable to support it at least give the baby a life. Give the baby up for adoption if you have to, but do not kill the baby.
just so everyone knows, the previous res. was a little too muddled and vauge, so we changed it. the res is now: resolved: the US should not allow abortion. but well try not to argue about that from now on, it makes bad debates. on to my case: first, abortion is a rather hot topic, and quite touchy for some people. i ask that people on both sides of the issue put their personal feelings aside and vote on how the issues were debated throughout the entire debate. now for the argument every abortion debate has (chances are your tired of them, so ill keep it brief). the US is built on one principle, freedom. if the US did not allow abortion then it would be effectively ignoring this basic ideal on which it was built. the fact is, pregnancy is a womens ordeal (for lack of a better word). it puts a severe amount of strain on her body, one that cannot be fully understood unless you go through it. if a woman doesn't want to, or is not physically able to, carry a baby, then the government has no right to make her. but the question remains, what of the child that will never be born? quite frankly, the childs life will likly be rather poor. why? lets think about why abortions usually occur. 1) the "accidental" baby. lets say a couple are doing the dirty deed, and are even using protection, a male or female condom (yes there is a type of condom for women). unfortunately, those are only 98% effective, leaving 2% with a possible pregnancy. these couples don't want a baby, let alone prepared for one. 2) the teen pregnacy. lets get it out there, teens are gonna have sex, period. no amount of sex ed gonna stop them. some of them are gonna get pregnant. so without abortion these couples, not to mention the kid, are effectivly screwed for life (for lack of a better term). teen girls arnt old enough to be able to carry a baby without causing their body even more havoc then puberty causes. and neither partner has enough life expirience to raise a child properly. 3) rape baby. as ive said above, pregnancy puts a tremendous strain on the womans body. in the case of a rape baby, this is a burden that the woman didnt want, and will be a constant reminder of a rather tramatic event. not only would she be left to raise a child on her own, but said child would be a reminder of the worst night of her life. in all of these cases, abortion is the better route. it saves both partners (especially the woman) a severe amount of emotional (and physical) stress and strain. of course those scenarios ignored the possibility of adoption. but that possibility is not a reason to ban abortion, if anything its a reason to allow it. the US adoption system is currently overtaxed (sources to follow in my next round). there are too many kids, and not enough homes. So where are the kids put while a home is trying to be found for them? group houses. these group houses house a large number of kids (i believe the average is upwards of 30, but ill look it up). these kids are usually rather bad, often into sex and drugs. and the house cant do much to stop them. A friend of mine lives in a group house, shes really smart, and was on her way to college. but, she had to drop out. why? because she, like so many others in group houses, had little supervision. she got into sex and drugs, and wound up pregnant. effectively ruining her life. without abortion even more kids would be dumped into group houses, thereby exacerbating the problem. the homes that are found for kids are only marginally better. the homes that can be found are usually not very good (i will expand on this when i have some stats). adoption is more a curse then a solution, dooming most of the children in it to lives no human should have to live. i will expand on these point in my next round thank you |

I am also a Barack supporter, do my beliefs appear inconsistent with the typical Democrat/liberal?
No sarcasm intended, I'd really like to know. I'll admit that I am ignorant in many ways when it comes to politics, only in the last couple of months have I gained true knowledge of politics.
Thanks in advance for the help!
:D
