Con

two wrongs don't make a right. killing people who kill people isn't teaching anyone anything except to reciprocate with something more dramatic and unnecessary.
mariahsaywhaaa

Pro

Okay good point, but putting a mass murder in jail and having tax payers pay for 3 square meals and a pretty decent life isn't teaching anyone especially them any lesions.

Con

everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others. but everyone deserves a second chance. if someone would go as far to intentionally kill someone, then something must be clinically wrong with them. whether it's out of anger, envy, or jealousy they have a twisted way of thinking that killing the person who is making them feel like that is the best way to go. anyone who thinks like that should see a therapist, not be considered a liability to our country.

if someone does "go insane" and kills a mass amount of people or even just one, and is convicted who do you think is paying for there therapist?!

Con

the same people who are paying to keep them in prison. the same people who pay for their meals. the same people who pay for lethal injection. it's more convenient and saves money to use capitol punishment over a life sentence, but no one has the authority to chose whether someone lives or dies.

it's not that it's just cheaper but if no one has that authority to take someone else's life then the person that commited that crime must reap the same doing. if someone decides one day to take someones life for no good reason then they should in my opinion get the same treatment.

I am pro Death Penalty only if the person did something too bad and if proven guilty. Rapits, Child killers are some examples of why I am agree with Death Penalty, The did terrible things and hurt so many people. I am concious that only God has the right to take and give life but what about the lives of the innocents who post their lives because someone decided to do kill without mercy.

On the one hand take a life is difficult desicion and is possible to make mistakes in the process but on the other hand people commited crimes deserve a punishment, I agree with death penalty like my grandfather said "dog that eat eggs nor does he learn by burning his snout"

to the con arguer. Murder isn't a mistake. It's a deliberate, Unnecessary taking of an innocent life. Self-defense isn't murder. It's the deliberate yet NECESSARY taking of a NON innocent life to protect one's OWN INNOCENT LIFE. And let's be clear, Giving the death penalty to a murderer is very much self-defense. Of course it maybe more like, Community-defense, But each person responsible for the execution is also thinking of their OWN safety. So in this case the death penalty is still "self-defense" just in a more community-oriented setting.

I'm pretty sure the Con argument believes that self-defense IS NOT a mistake, But somehow murder is. LOL. She seems to have more of a problem with the concept of self-defense than with the initial action that prompted the courts to take decisive action against the criminal offender and give them the death penalty.

Sad really.

Well after reading a far more interesting debate in the comments, I will give 4 cents "The expense of the Death penalty comes from the unwillingness to do it, Don't tell me buying an axe and hacking someones head off is really more expensive that giving a person three meals day, A shelter, Paying all those prison guards. Beyond that we should cane felons below murder, Like bank robbery, And attempted murder, Or kidnapping, Public to, Don't kill them but make it hurt, Teach them not to do it again"

This was really bad, But I'll give my 2 cents, Ahem "The Death penalty works, It prevents murderers from killing more people, By killing them, Therefore we should keep the Death penalty, But only for murder and such. "

Terrible debate overall, No use of sources, No actual arguments brought up. Used the claim of death penalty being cheaper with no source when most studies prove its not. In future debates please use sources and explain how they support your arguments. Lay out your points clearly to the audience and explain them. This read like a twitter/facebook style debate and neither side should be winning.

I respect the different views people have of capital punishment and hope others respect my view on it as well. These are just my thoughts. . .

Just as it is immoral for the murderer to have killed the victim, Who are we to then proceed by killing the murderer? In my opinion, We're not some higher power that can just decide to put someone to death as a punishment for a crime. The murderers had no right to kill the victims, And we don't have the right to put them to death either. Putting the murderer to death is not killing them for the same reason they killed the victim; however, It is still doing the same act in itself.

Sadly to all of you against the death penalty it should be legal for one big reason. . .
It makes life so much more valuable, A better way of explaining this is, Is imagine the penalty for murder was a parking ticket, That'd would significantly lower how valuable ones life is.
And if we do illegalize the death penalty that will cause so much more pain and suffering for the victim's family as they know that they're tax money is going to feed a heartless murderer who is being carefully cared for.
