two wrongs don't make a right. killing people who kill people isn't teaching anyone anything except to reciprocate with something more dramatic and unnecessary.

Okay good point, but putting a mass murder in jail and having tax payers pay for 3 square meals and a pretty decent life isn't teaching anyone especially them any lesions.

everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others. but everyone deserves a second chance. if someone would go as far to intentionally kill someone, then something must be clinically wrong with them. whether it's out of anger, envy, or jealousy they have a twisted way of thinking that killing the person who is making them feel like that is the best way to go. anyone who thinks like that should see a therapist, not be considered a liability to our country.

if someone does "go insane" and kills a mass amount of people or even just one, and is convicted who do you think is paying for there therapist?!

the same people who are paying to keep them in prison. the same people who pay for their meals. the same people who pay for lethal injection. it's more convenient and saves money to use capitol punishment over a life sentence, but no one has the authority to chose whether someone lives or dies.

it's not that it's just cheaper but if no one has that authority to take someone else's life then the person that commited that crime must reap the same doing. if someone decides one day to take someones life for no good reason then they should in my opinion get the same treatment.

I think it might be a good idea because it would be a less expense for the state, But I feel that nobody has the right to decide for someone's life, No matter what they have done. The person who made the crime is already paying in some way.

Con didn't bring up that in a death penalty case, The number of retrials and such actually makes the capital punishment *more* expensive than lifetime incarceration. Also, Most western countries have abolished capital punishment.

A major problem that I see present in my country, Taiwan (sadly, I must admit), where way too many criminals who deserved the death penalty had not been given the sentence, is an absurd increase in crime and reoffending rates. It made the headlines the other day when a murderer claimed in court that he was not intimidated because "they won't give me the death sentence anyways", which ironically became the case. It's a sad thing that we have to kill a person intentionally to teach them a lesson, but trust me: it's even worse when criminals are coming to your country to commit crimes because they know that they will not be punished severely.

For those of you who claim that 'an eye for an eye' is not the way to go, what you're not seeing is that crime begets crime. I see leaders of fraud schemes in China receiving the death penalty because of the sheer amount of money involved, yet I doubt the same would apply if such a group committed the same thing in Taiwan.

There are limits to everything, tolerance to psychos and absurd crimes included. I sometimes hear people who support the abolition of the death penalty say that they would not change their minds even if the person in question is their family member - but I doubt that they would say the same thing if that really is the case.

Law is complex but it has a massive impact on the way society perceives things as well as the way it works. We must take into account the effects of abolishing what is the ultimate punishment for offenders - I mean, where does that render the powers of the regime? How can we show respect to the victim's family when we fail to even justify the suffering of an innocent target?

When psychos are on the lose and when serial killers are given these 'second chances', what we really need to think about is education (both in families and in schools) rather than abolishing the death penalty. Not the other way round.

a death penalty is used as a punishement by the good vernment for the following reasons:
1-its a lesson for whoever thinks about killing
2- For the dead persons family..its their right
if there was no death penalty then people would go around thinking that there is no punishment for being a murderer, you can imagine ehat can happen to the world after that

What about mass shootings? What if it is 10 eyes for an eye? If you were to simply give this person a counselor, you might as well give them a million dollars and call the shooter a "good boy". So in reality, you are treating the murderer more fair than the innocents killed. Wow.

The reason people get the death penalty is because they've already had a second chance. They are now deadly leeches to society.

I honestly support the death penalty for more crimes than murder.

The penalty for escaping any other jail once should be prison in Guantanamo Bay.

The penalty for escaping Guantanamo Bay should be death because if the toughest prison can't hold a very bad prisoner, then jail isn't working and the prisoner (if sent back to Guantanamo) to encourage other prisoners to escape with advice and motivation.

To the democrats reading the comment; Hillary Clinton supports the death penalty. Look it up if you think I'm bluffing.

MARGE11."Everyone makes mistakes, everyone deserves a second chance".Google this name: JEREMY BAMBER. He is an English man, born into a wealthy family.Bamber spent all the money his family gave him but he wanted more. His answer was to take a shotgun to his family home and shoot, first his father, then his mother. He then walked into the back garden and twice shot his twin sister.Next he drove to the house of his last surviving sibling, his sister and shot her.Bamber killed his entire family so he'd inherit all his families money. He admitted this in court."So did he make a mistake?Should he be given a second chance?I await your answer with interest.
