two wrongs don't make a right. killing people who kill people isn't teaching anyone anything except to reciprocate with something more dramatic and unnecessary.

Okay good point, but putting a mass murder in jail and having tax payers pay for 3 square meals and a pretty decent life isn't teaching anyone especially them any lesions.

everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others. but everyone deserves a second chance. if someone would go as far to intentionally kill someone, then something must be clinically wrong with them. whether it's out of anger, envy, or jealousy they have a twisted way of thinking that killing the person who is making them feel like that is the best way to go. anyone who thinks like that should see a therapist, not be considered a liability to our country.

if someone does "go insane" and kills a mass amount of people or even just one, and is convicted who do you think is paying for there therapist?!

the same people who are paying to keep them in prison. the same people who pay for their meals. the same people who pay for lethal injection. it's more convenient and saves money to use capitol punishment over a life sentence, but no one has the authority to chose whether someone lives or dies.

it's not that it's just cheaper but if no one has that authority to take someone else's life then the person that commited that crime must reap the same doing. if someone decides one day to take someones life for no good reason then they should in my opinion get the same treatment.

The death penalty is needed because of many reasons and I will list them:

1. The death penalty is preventing said "person" from ever committing a large scale crime.
2. Jail is not the answer to every crime. Jail is like a time out and its purpose is to make you think about what you have done to prevent you from doing it again. It is not a place for torture or cruel punishment. Many people have been to jail and never learn their lesson which only death will stop them.
3. We have rules which everyone should know about. If you live somewhere with rules, There should be no denying that you never heard of "that" rule when committing when it comes to committing a crime.
4. The death penalty can be thought of as mercy or maybe even a gift. I am sure that a criminal will not be living a happy life being infamous. Yes, There is the option of "Yes, That is what they get. " but after a while, There is no stopping them from rejecting their fate and once more hurting others.

Imagine if someone had done something so horrible that you just wanted them to die or suffer. An example is 9/11 (Just pretend the pilot survived). He or she admits to purposely committing an act of terrorism with the goal to kill many. Do you think it is fair for them to keep their life, After taking so many others?

Obviously the death penalty should be banned. It's just wrong, And doesn't solve any problems. Prison is ideally supposed to be constructive and rehabilitating experience for the prisoners. If we view it as just a place to put bad guys, Then why not just kill them all? After all, We agreed they are inherently bad people, Why else would they be in jail? Thus, Wouldn't it be most effective to eliminate them all, And that way not have to waste money on prisons? This thinking is undoubtedly a solution, But not the best solution. As stated before, It misses the points of prison; it's a place for rehabilitation and learning. The people who land in prison are people who disobeyed the rules we established for our society; we must teach them why we have those rules and why they are helpful to society. We may also have to teach them why society is beneficial for them. This way, The prisoner learns the reason for society and the reason for society rules and why most of them are objectively good. I think what I'm trying to say here is that we need to change the way the prisoners view the world. What is the point of all of this you may ask? It's simple. They are able to successfully reintegrate into society and become productive members of said society. Thus, Even if you don't want to help the prisoners because you lack all empathy, Their are objective reasons to help the prisoners. So that is why the death penalty is bad; it is a far cry away from the ideal meaning of prisons, And ultimately only hurts society rather than help it.

I used to be anti-death penalty, But my views were shaken recently when someone I knew was murdered, Shot 5 times and left to bleed to death in a parking lot at 4am.

A few ideas I thought would be worth sharing:

The argument "you're no better than they are" is absurd. Killing a guilty person is not the same as killing an innocent person.

The argument "everyone deserves a second chance" - agreed, Especially murder victims.

When there is a grieving family and the dead body of a victim that needs to be buried. . Concerning yourself at all with the well-being / mental health of the murderer seems wrong somehow.

Does one waive their civil rights when they choose not to be civil?

I'm sure there's a gray area, But when it happens to someone you know, It's hard to think anything would be too harsh a punishment for a murder.

I'd be in favor of the death penalty, If I had enough faith in the justice systems to PROPERLY implement it.

I'm pro death penalty, For moral reasons:

1) Death is not inherently bad to the dead. The secular (me) believe that death is like having eternity pass in a night. Thus it cannot be bad, Only a nothing. The only reason murder is bad is because it harms living people's emotional and life quality. When public opinion says that a man is bad, Killing him relieves their hate and feelings of insecurity.
2) The mentally ill, Are, For the most part, Responsible for their actions. There DOES have to be something wrong with you if you kill somebody, But that doesn't excuse or justify wrong. It's something that's mostly inherent, At the moment incurable. It's in the way they process and think. Even if they were released when cured, The public would hate them still, Which leads to the next point. . .
3) The public is ruthless. The group absolves the individual of guilt, So lynchings would become more common. Despite the fact that many are against the death penalty, Feelings change when your friend is killed. Even if not, There will always be people eager to fill the role of judge, Jury and executor. By letting the government control who lives and dies, Unnecessary and cruel killings are avoided.
4) "Murder is murder is murder is. . . " Yeah. The death penalty IS murder. Murder with a deserving victim and a guiltless system. Saying 'murder' doesn't change the fact that it's an act that can have positive effects. "Murder is bad", Ah, A man of wisdom. Murder is not inherently bad for reasons I have already stated: death cannot be anything but good (heaven/punishment) or nothing, It is bad because it affects the welfare of people. This is my arbitrary line in the sand; people are important because I'm a person and would like to be benefited. Thus I assume the same for everyone else. The people benefit from knowing the evil is gone. Then murdering evil is good for the people (not the person), And the 'mentally ill' no longer suffer.
Thank you for reading.

I would like to answer Kaiser's comment. I think that you should read your bible. The Bible commanded in Leviticus Chapter 24:17 "And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death. "
Exodus 21:12 - He that smiteth a man, So that he die, Shall be surely put to death.
Numbers 35:30-31 - Whoso killeth any person, The murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person [to cause him] to die.
God doesn't beleive in capital punishment?
Maybe you need to read your bible.

I don't know about what you guys believe in, But each one of us are gods creation, We are all valued and a human life should be respected. If someone murders or kills or harms another purposely, He should face permanent jail time and god will judge him when he's dead, Murder does not justify murder.

Such short answers, It may as well be a YouTube live chat debate Lol. Well firstly it should not be an option when someone pleads guilty. Otherwise, How many innocent people are put on death row? Obviously the justice system isn't competent enough to be making decisions about people's lives when they F*&K up so often.

I totally disagree, Because we don't have the right to take the life, No matter that the bad things had done or negative stuffs.
