Columbus Day is a holiday that celebrates a man who enslaved native peoples, and didn't even find the the country that celebrates it! His mission was a failure and we don't need to support someone who exercised racism on a very large scale.

I disagree. As I acknowledge his mission was failed in its intended goal, most of us in this country are only here because of the failure of his mission as intended. Without Columbus, we definitely would have reached the new world by now, but nobody knows which country would have made it here first. Coulda been Russia or Japan, or another European country. Our development as a nation, no, as a continent would have been completely different, and very well may have changed the course of history. Hitler could have won the second world war, England could still be an empire, France may have never undertaken its revolution. For this reason, although his exploration led to many bad things happening on the American continents, we should still recognize that his discovery led to the creation of
