I would like to discuss the nature of Jehovah. I see that Jesus is also Jehovah. I do not agree with the new world translation of john1:1 where it states that the Word was "a god".

I don't understand what you are contesting here? What don't you agree about in John's gospel? And how does this tie in to Jehovah's Witnesses?

The word "Jehovah" is not an actual Hebrew word since there are "J" sounds in Hebrew. The word was synthesized from the original Hebrew word, Yahweh, which is supposed to be the highest emanation of God.

As to what John is referring to, he is stating that Yeshua (Jesus) and Yahweh (God/Jehovah) are one. He is also saying that the very Word of God is God. This verse, among others, is where the concept of the Trinity come in to play.

Beyond that I'm unclear on what you are desiring to debate about. Can you expound?

What I wanted to do was debate a JW to show him Jesus is Jehovah and not just a "god". I think you might have gotten mixed up.

I voted "pro" because the argument presented by "con" is easily rebutted with "pro's" statements regardless of "pro's" understanding of the point of the debate. The point of the debate should have been made clear. You don't assume people will somehow interpret your thoughts without you making your thoughts available for us to interpret.

Tough luck about the mess up. But I rec amend you be careful debating theology especially if you are a Christian because imposing our beliefs on others is not something that will help them understand. We have to let normal people open up to the idea before we begin wittnesing.
